I think steffen in karlsruhe uses those cranks, he's had no trouble with them, and he's not small!

i have some proper wheel covers - designed for 24" wheels but might work well on 26" leaving a gap to adjust nipples. pink background with acid/smiley face. i paid £13 for them, haven't used them but did scuff them a bit installing them. nothing serious. £8.

they're plastic - can't tell you much more about them to be honest. they seem fairly rugged.

Coat them in fibre glass liquid and you're on to something.

Fibreglass is the future, a very noisy future though.

I was looking into carbon twill fabric to make some discs... it's bloody expensive to get enough layers to laminate up.
Even the carbon / kevlar stuff is costly.. and thats before you add cost of epoxy and the rest...

...it's roughly 200gsm, and you've got 5-8 layers per side, it's not going to be that light anyway...

and you need to make a conical mold too. Recep's carbon disc is pretty light I think, but it's proper carbon fibre, and i think about €140 per side!!!

The fibreglass is a little heavier than Correx (estate agent shit). But it's pretty much indestructable, so gotta be worth it.
