here's a question:

Hauska brings his bike to the Herne Hill track and copies his ride (21mph for 11k), 11k is about 24 laps of the track, if the resting bunch are going around on the blue line at 24mph, how many laps before they overtake him?

Assuming that Hauska gets his 24 lap head start before the bunch start, if Hauska and the bunch were both on the black, then:

v_b/v_h=s_b/s_h
s_b=s_h + 24 laps
v_b/v_h = 1 + 24 laps/s_h
s_h = 24 laps / (v_b/v_h - 1) = 24 laps/0.14 = 171 laps later

In time this is t=s_h/v_h = 171 laps / 21 mph = 2 hours 16 mins.

Assuming the blue line is 2.5m higher than the black (the legal minimum), then the bunch go around 458m per lap, and Hauska goes around 450m.

v_b/v_h=s_b/s_h
s_b = 24 bunch laps + s_h
s_h = 24 bunch laps / (v_b/v_h - 1) = 199 laps
In time this is t=199 laps / v_h = 2 hours 38 mins later.

Either way, Hauska is a legend to be on his own in the wind for so long.
