I ended up unstitching mine and cutting a piece of plastic sheeting using the broken bits as a template. I then sewed this in.

I did a decent enough job that it is functional. Not the prettiest, but I'm pretty rubbish sewer.
I used the plastic cover of a a4 folder for the replacement plastic.
