Just picked up a pair of the trousers from Rutland.
I couldn't find anything online about them. I'll report back once I've had a chance to wear them. At the end of the day it's £20 and my favourite Zara cycling trousers are feeling a little too cold this time of year.
Having just bought a pair of Outlier trousers made of the magical Schoelller fabric for £100 and being thrilled to bits with them I have also bought a pair of these Rutland £20 jobs and can't wait to see if they do the same as their esoteric NYC $250 ticket cousins.

Rapha you bunch of clever c*nts. I was disgusted by the look of your old gold jersey and jacket when they came out. But after a week I now think they are the coolest things ever. Brainwashing c*nts.

The Merino Gloves are lovely. That is all.

I love my Rapha Merino Base Layers, but it's time for some new ones now. However, at about £60 a pop, I'd like to know if there was something of similar niceness for less priceness.
Anyone tried these?

I got a pair last week, tested them out in drizzly rain yesterday, water beaded on fabric, dry legs, well chuffed with these!

Admittedly I haven't tried rapha's so cant compare. I imagine in the long run the dhb are not quite as durable, as they have a thinner mesh section down the ribs. No problems with them so far though. -

Icebreaker and Howies. I can only wear Rapha and Howies directly on skin and only the
baselayers, not the jersey. -

What are you doing to them? Mine are still going strong after years of use.
-
• #13713
^^ Absolutely disagree. I've had mine for 4+ years now - still feel like new. Dhb on the other hand are wafer thin and are always changing shape/shrinking. Total junk.

This.
I have one that's over five years old now that's still in regular use and by the looks of it will be for quite some time.

and FWIW Icebreaker merino is even better and softer than Rapha.
-
• #13716
Have to chime in on the Rapha baselayer love, by far their best product.
-
• #13717
Pretty much the only thing they make I would consider paying full retail price for.

The Devold stuff I use is absolutely top drawer. But its 100% merino. Which seems to mean I wear through it. I had a lightweight t-shirt where I completely wore through both armpits. That was from running though.
I'm not sure you can base longevity on price. Plenty of the blends will last far longer. But you only get the wet warmth performance from the wool part.
The main thing IMHO. Is finding the right weight for your needs, in a nice snug fit without over streatching.

Yeah, I don't go back home that often at the moment. But I have an amazing merino hoodie I got from there years ago that is a great all year round piece of clothing. Do they do anything base layer specific though?

I could tell the difference in quality straight away and I've been put off DHB stuff ever since.
Depends how itch resistant you are. I haven't tried the one in the link but I have Rapha, Aldi, Planetx.

Gotta disagree with this.

Yup

Uhuh.

That's what I'm understanding now. Might have to bite the bullet and pull the trigger on a couple more layers.

That's interesting. My Swrve merino seemed heavier than the Rapha ones, but was pretty much useless after a dozen or so washes. I think the lightweight ones are better for me as I generally run quite hot and don't need to really layer up.
I imght give the ebay one I posted a go and see how it holds up, but can see me returning to Rapha for future base layer niceness.

Not specific but I tend to buy down a size or two so it is stretched thin and closer to the skin. I get tank tops for under jerseys or long sleeve for just that and a jacket.
-
• #13721
Long sleeve or short sleeved?
And when do you break them out? Is this the right temperature?
-

Too good to wear, even
My one fear with them is that the little triangle of soft touch material at the base of the palm might wear through prematurely (from riding on the hoods). I've gone through two pairs of their summer mitts in a similar spot.

• #13723
My baselayers don't like being worn with a backpack on the commute, the friction has put holes in a couple. Obv not designed for that so my own silly fault.
-
• #13724
all 3 of my baselayers look like this:
but they are much thinner than all the other ones.
