Fair enough. There's this German place too, but also out of stock:

Also Starbike, Eur.40.20 for 36 shipped, or 45.60 for black ones.

It will make a difference, but it isn't clear whether Corima have already allowed for this in their stated ERD. Probably not, judging by the small difference between internal diameter and ERD. You also need specific concealed nipples, don't try to build it with conventional ones upside down as the slot head on a conventional nipple will auger through the carbon and wreck your rims. Corima sell a pack of 5 CX-Ray spokes with nipples for Eur.9.50 in a 268mm length, or 5 CX spokes with nipples for Eur.6.90 in a 271mm length. One of these is likely to be the best fit for your build.
I forgot to thank you after reading this earlier, mdcc, so: thanks for the help!
I've just send Corima an email to see what they have to say. -

Got a Mavic EX 721 rim that I'm going to get built up, but I'm not sure what diameter nipples I need.
I know I need 12mm length, but they seem to come in 1.8 and 2 mm widths. Does anyone know which one to get? I'll be using DT Swiss Alpine III spokes if that makes any difference.
Also, are the "Prolock" version worth the extra cash? What's the difference between those and the standard nipples?
Thanks.

You need 2mm nipples for Alpine III, as they are 14g at the threaded end. 1.8mm nipples are for 15g spokes. Prolock nipples are like nylock nuts, they don't loosen when unloaded. If you're doing the kind of big hits which make some of the spokes go completely slack, they might be worth it if you don't want to be truing your wheels every week, but if your hitting that hard you'll be truing them every month anyway. Very small gain for your extra £19 when the nipples which come with the spokes are fine for 99% of the time, although as you're already going for the best of everything you might as well go all out and get Prolocks so you'll always know you didn't make any compromises anywhere.

Ordered from SJSC in the end - £27.44 for 36 x Alpine III spokes and 36 x 2mm/12mm brass nipples.
Would have been about £52 inc. postage at Fat Birds for 72 spokes and 100 nipples, and I'm not sure if I could have used the remaining spokes.
Thanks for the help mdcc_tester, and apologies for being such a n00b. I know what kit I want, I just have no idea how to put it together. Really should do a cycle mechanics course or something...

Anyone know what length i need for profiles to H Sons 3X? I did a search but didnt come up with anything and i don't have the rim/hub to hand.
Thanks

I was sold hubs as part of a Golden Arrow groupset recently, They are a bit odd and I tried measuring them for a 3x spoke pattern. The length seems fine, but the hubs don't allow for anything other than 2x lacing.
They're actually 600 ax http://tinyurl.com/32abxra and before re-calculating for 2x I wanted to check what people think about how accurate my measurements will be, considering the sunken spoke head holes.
Can anyone find any measurements for them or had experience? I've tried spocalc and edd.
Any help would be great (they're being laced to open sports btw)

32 spokes?
All the measurements are on here http://lenni.info/edd/
It would be 296 all around if 32

The rebate changes the centre to flange distance very slightly, and this is easily the least important measurement, as anybody with a grasp of trigonometry will know. It takes a big change in this dimension to make the jump from one spoke length to the next, which is why we use the same spoke length for inbound and outbound spokes, even though the inbound ones are effectively about 5mm closer to the centreline. Your rebated holes actually mean the difference between inbound and outbound will be less than for a normal hub.

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out spoke lengths to build some road wheels. I've tried a few online resources and although this http://lenni.info/edd/ is very good, I find it comprehensive to the point of being confusing!
This is what I'm trying to build....
Front - 36h, 3 cross
Rim - Omega 19 box section rim (there's a few variations of this on Edd, all with different ERD)
Hub - Campagnolo Record, 1980's low flange hubRear - 36h, 3 cross
Rim - Omega Strada Hardox v rim (again, there are two different versions of this on Edd)
Hub - Campagnolo Record, 1980's low flange, 6 speedAny help greatly appreciated, cheers!

Spoke Calculations are driving me crazy!
32h PX Pista Hubs and Ambrosio Excursion Rims. 3x for both.
Online the ERD is given in various places as 600.5mm, my tape measure says 595mm for starters.
The hub data given on PX is useful I guess, but doesn't meet the measurements the sites are asking for.
So, using my values (expect ERD on the Edd site where the rim is in the lookup table) I've got the following results:
Front & Rear 293mm
Front 284.4
Rear 284.8Front 287.65
Rear 287.49Front 290.457
Rear 290.299Front 288
Rear 288.3So, no consitency. What's the margin of error for spoke length? I can't imagine it's more than 1mm or so if tension is to be correct.

go with edd

ERD is not from iside to inside of the rim, it's to where the nipples sit. So inside to inside plus x2 the thickness of rim at the spoke hole. I think.

This^Measure using two old spokes with nipples threaded on and the elbows cut off.

There is a bit of margin but it's better a little too long than a little too short. I'd go 291 F+R.

Cheers folks. I've gone back through a couple with using the ERD as published, still quite alot of variation.
also just used spocalc.xls which gives me 290.5 at front, but 323.1 at the rear!
The spokes are for a wheelbuild course so I can use my own bits, think I'll use theirs and take mine along to do spoke calc work with them (it's this i'm keen to learn as much as tricks and tips on putting them all together...)

Wrong way round - if your spokes are too long there is a danger of running the nipple thread into the shank of the spoke when you tension them. Always round down if you can't get the exact length determined by calculation, e.g. if the calc says 291mm then get 290, not 292.

Morning,
Was planning to order Miche high flanges to go with Mavic Open Pros (32h). The spokes I had in mind are DT Swiss Competitions.
How long should the spokes be? Tried to figure it out myself, but to no avail. The database for such knowledge (http://lenni.info/edd/) seems to be unavailable at the moment.
Pretty sure some of you have had the same wheels built.
The other option is to go Gran Compe. Not sure how good they are (your opinions are much appreciated), but I like the aesthetics.

Hey buddy,
For the Miche Primato Large Flange hubs on Mavic Open Pro's i get 293.0mm for the front and 293.4mm for the rear so i'd order 292mm spokes.
As for the Gran Compe i believe them to be decent hubs, but no better than formulas which in my opinion are a good benchmark for cheaper hubs. Have a look at Planet X Pista hubs - i built a set of these onto open pro's and they're good hubs, basically an unbranded Gran Compe.
Hope that helps.

And cheers for heads-up regarding Gran Compes. Will grab the Miches.

As http://lenni.info/edd/ is currently down or my work computer wont let me onto it could someone help with spoke length or recommend another calculator to use (preferably one that is as easy!!)? I have a set of On One Large Flange Track hubs and 32H Velocity Deep V rims.
Cheers for the help in advance
Dan
I'm going Fatbirds, as I need 72 of one length for my pair of wheels.
