I am building up this exact combo tonight!
I measured the hub dimensions by hand with a set of verniers as i always do (don't trust the spoke calcs on random hubs such as the planet X pista's) and i got it to be 2.5mm. To be honest i always use 2.5mm, as it will make less than 1mm difference to the spoke length anyway. The main conrtibutors are number of holes (32 or 36) and rim ERD. C-F measurements make minor differences on track hubs as the difference between front and rear is normally something like 2-3mm a side.
I've ordered 292mm spokes. Will let you know how i get on ;-)
hi
did someone already built up the following combo? :
planet X hubs with open pros ?
what is the Ø of the holes in the planet X hubs ? 2,6mm like on the cheap novatecs ?
does somebody have the matching spoke length for 32 spokes , standart 3x crossed ?

I always thought the original intention of this thread was to have a list rather like the chainline database on here? I know loads of people came back with "use a spoke calc, UTFS etc etc" which is all a bit tiresome. At the end of the day you can use a spoke calc (we all do) but when a total newbie it can be daunting and you want to know that someone has physically actually built the combo of hubs/rims your looking at.
I'm going to start this list with some of the combo's i've built up recently, hopefully it will take the error and mystery out of wheel building for some folks. OP feel free to copy paste this into the 1st post and all feel free to quote and update as per other list type threads. As you were;
Hub + Rim = Spoke Length
Goldtec Track Front 32h + H+Son SL42 (Formation Face w/braking surface) = 264mm
Goldtec Track Rear 32h (double fixed) + H+Son Formation Face = 264mm
On-One Front Track 32h + Rigida DP18 (new style, not NOS) = 276mm
Dura Ace HB7600 36h (double fixed) + Velocity Deep V = 276mm -

spoke count , nipple length and number of crossings are altough relevant

• #330
Ah yes of course, i always neglect this though as I only build 3x with standard 12mm nipples.

"spoke count is altough relevant" :]
anyways , wich spokes did you order ?

Hi There
Does anybody know the spoke length for Dia gran compes laced to Deep V's 32hole 3cross? -
• #333
Ordered 292mm ACI double butted from Cyclebasket. Laced them both up this eve and just trued the front and its good to go! Rear will get sorted this weekend all being well. I'm impressed, they're a lot lighter than my current wheels and seem very easy to build with :-)

***** 32 Hole 3x Pattern*****
Hub + Rim = Spoke Length (standard 12mm nipple)
Goldtec Track Front 32h + H+Son SL42 (Formation Face w/braking surface) = 264mm
Goldtec Track Rear 32h (double fixed) + H+Son Formation Face = 264mm
On-One Front Track 32h + Rigida DP18 (new style, not NOS) = 276mm
Planet X Pista Front 32h + Mavic Open Pro = 292mm
Planet X Pista Rear 32h (double fixed) + Mavic Open Pro = 292mm**36 Hole 3x Pattern**
Hub + Rim = Spoke Length (standard 12mm nipple)
Dura Ace HB7600 36h (double fixed) + Velocity Deep V = 276mm**Other Patterns TBA**

Hi There
Does anybody know the spoke length for Dia gran compes laced to Deep V's 32hole 3cross?
282mm with 12mm nipple -

cheers for the info

^^ I (and most people) would suggest rounding spoke lengths down, not up.
I would have gone 288mm, possibly 286mm personally.

dammit, still possible to change the order.. can CRC received such custom order?

My spokes for my rear wheel were a couple of mm out, made no difference

I'm about to order some spokes for the first time and was wondering if I'm doing it right..
I'm not sure what the ERD of my Corima Aero above is, as I don't know if there are any differences in the years they were build.
I found this on weightweenies:
ERD 553.0 mm and the inner diameter 544.0 mm
I measured the inner diameter of mine and it's the same, so is it fair to say the ERD will be the same too?Am I then right on this?
Spoke hole: 2.6mm
Spoke circle: 62mm
Centre to flange left and right: 29.5mm
Holes: 24
Using the Edd spokecalc for lacing 2 x it tells 262.7mmBut the Corima Aero ERD implemented in the calculator is using 563.0mm ERD and tells 267.7mm
I'm not sure, but is the latter including nipples?
What length should I pick for internal nipples?Cheers

Bjorn - ERD is given on the Corima site http://www.corima.com/gb/produits/roues/default.cfm?family=roues_janteCorima
Click on the technical data tab. Looks like 553 to me.
Also by the looks of it the internal nipples shouldn't make any difference to the calculation, they're just hidden by the carbon V. imagine getting a normal rim and building a carbon V which hid the nipples, the calculation would be the same right?

Really? I thought nipple length was just varied to get the driver flats clear of thick rims, and the threaded part always starts at the head and goes for a standard length, with a plain bore for the excess.

Thanks for the help.
I'm completely new to this thing, so I might not have been clear, but from what I read/understand the nipple will go on upside down, so that should make a difference? -

It will make a difference, but it isn't clear whether Corima have already allowed for this in their stated ERD. Probably not, judging by the small difference between internal diameter and ERD. You also need specific concealed nipples, don't try to build it with conventional ones upside down as the slot head on a conventional nipple will auger through the carbon and wreck your rims. Corima sell a pack of 5 CX-Ray spokes with nipples for Eur.9.50 in a 268mm length, or 5 CX spokes with nipples for Eur.6.90 in a 271mm length. One of these is likely to be the best fit for your build.

I can't seem to find the specs for a Hope Pro II Single Speed / Trials rear hub. It is 36 hole, and I want to get it built up on a Mavic EX 721 (26 inch) rim, 3 cross pattern. Does anyone know what spoke length I will need?
Also, are DT Swiss Alpine III the strongest? Looking at either those or the Competition version.
Thanks.

• #347
I'm just about to build that hub with Alpine III, 36h 3X, onto whatever rim I end up with. Use the DT spoke calculator and the following dimensions:
Right flange dia 54.0
Left flange dia 56.0
Centre to flange (both) 32.5
Spoke holes 2.5Double check with the Mavic calculator, then measure the actual rim too!
In theory the Alpine III are marginally stronger where it counts.

That's great, thanks.
DT calculator says 256.9 / 256.5
Sheldon Brown Excel one says 255.2 / 255.6So I guess I'll go for 256mm.
Seems like the few places that stock Alpine III's are out of stock of that length at the mo, but I'll see when they can get some in, otherwise go with Competitions.

Fatbirds are showing 256mm as in stock, and at £37.99 for 72 they are cheap too.
http://www.fatbirds.co.uk/detail.asp/sku=mad-SKAP248/DT_Swiss_Alpine_III_silver_spokes_13_15_14g_2-34_1-8_2mm_box_of_72SJSC have them too at £3.99/6, which is better if you only need one wheel's worth

Fat Birds are out of stock of that length, it shows you if you add them to your basket.
Might try SJS. Seems rather expensive though. Is that where you're getting your's?
Anyone have 36 x 285mm they wanna sell me?
