just had a look at the '09 results. tash was the 4th female over the line. well done! 7hr55mins. she leaves me for dead on surrey hill climbs. makes me wonder if sub-10hrs is a realistic target for the likes of me. :S

Repost :P
I'm Cat D, so need to better 8:49 for Gold. I'm thinking just finishing it alive would be gold.

I had a bad patch on the Telegraphe when I did it, managed to ride through it and recovered and still managed to dip underneath the time for gold.
Whilst tough they are not insanely hard like the Etape gold and silver times.

I still think finishing it alive will do me just fine. :P

That was my primary goal.

Faith's sort of coming round to the idea of me going on a continental cycling excursion next year, but cost remains a big factor.
An lfgss Marmotte trip remains on the list of possibles, but my mate's been bugging me for years to go and ride Angliru with him, and there's something very appealing about that to a dysfunctional personality like mine :)
It might mean going for a 39x26 bottom, but then, I'd not be racing up it, so 39x23 could suffice. Or not :/

Although a 49-year-old Pedro Delgado opts for 34x29 :O
-
• #215
Yeah, but Delgado's never raced Yorks Hill so what does he know about hill climbing?
The Angliru looks bonkers in the nut.

I've got a 9spd 26t sprocket in the box, so I'd just change my 10spd 12-23 into a mixed 13-26. A 39.5" gear should get me up anything... slowly.
I can hear the mountain calling me...

Piece of piss, that. My regular training over Col du d'Notting des d'Hill combined with my climbing demon's physique makes the kay averaging over 17% look like a stroll through Hyde Park.

Is there any footage of the Millar outrage on Angliru? No luck on utube yet. Looks like a crazy climb, and foggy on most of the clips. Even Delgao looses tracktion a couple of times but that is probably caused by his low gearing.

OMG - that is pure porn for me. I think I'd have to wimp out, and go for a Xer or something - but only for the knobblies. 39x23 would be fine...

omfg!

But it seems it's not open to road bicycles any more. Probably more fun spinning up on a mtb and enjoying the scenery anyway.
-
• #223
that's fucking ridiculous, why the blazes would anyone want to ride UP that!?
(apart form BMMH who is all mad in the head)

I certainly don't want to wheelie down it:

@hippy, bars still forsale, although gizzy expressed interest in the stem only for some reason. Holding on though in case someone wants the pair.
Incidentally, Corima do clincher rims as well as tubs. Although you hate Campag, Eurus do rims you can use either.
