  • Obvious reply is obvious.

  • Vittoria Corsa Evo CX ? I'm notre sure what "sidewalled" means... One of those new Compass tyres ?

  • New Compass tyres is great, but the cost of import might not rules in his favour.

What about the Vittoria Open Pave? they're in 27mm.

  • Compass? Never heard of them.

Open Pave 27 would work but they're expensive and not super durable. Might give them a go.

  • Compass Bicycles, they now have their own range other than Grand Boys.

  • Grand Boys? Sounds better than Grand Bois actually

  • Anyone found a decent price on GP 4000s ii's? Would like some 25's now that springtime is here

  • Fast losing faith in Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps - two punctures yesterday, gah - although they have done 2,500 miles, so maybe it's replacement time anyway?

Part of me is tempted to just chuck Maxxis Refuse on, but feels a bit wrong for a road bike in spring. Thinking about trying Rubino Pros - good puncture protection is important to me and they seem to get decent reviews (and Scoble recommendation).

Anything else I should be thinking about? I don't do Continentals because they are shit.

  • ^I'm still liking my Michelin Pro4 Service Team; only a few hundred (p**.. free) miles so far but they replace the Pro3 Race which saw me through about 3,000 miles and a single pfft in all that time.

  • Another option is the Vittoria Open Pave.

  • Not had a puncture on the Four Seasons since the start of the Rapha 500 including commute that is 2000 miles. I remove the debris stuck every Friday and 8bar them. This has changed to 90psi now.

  • Save the race tyres for racing. Simples. I ran Rubino Pro for ages - they rock solid for their weight.

But then I went mental and threw on some super heavy duty Marathon and Durano Plus options. I think I might tone it down a bit to just use Durano rather than the Plus version but they're so farking thick - great when you do miles.. and miles.. and miles..

  • Anybody with a Miele washing machine rides Continental.

  • I'm not that rich/posh/concerned with washing machines.

  • Knitterschutz.

  • Got Bontrager Hardcase Racelights for commuting and training and the turbo and they are tough as anything I've run. Not the lightest or most supple but by no means disgraceful. And they're 13 quid on JE James.

  • That must be the old one, the AW2/3 replaced them.

  • I've been using Veloflex on all my bikes this year. Master and Corsa have proven themselves to be great rides and puncture free so far.

  • Thinking about trying Rubino Pros.

I liked them but the ones I had had no grip in the wet.

^I'm still liking my Michelin Pro4 Service Team; only a few hundred (p**.. free) miles so far but they replace the Pro3 Race which saw me through about 3,000 miles and a single pfft in all that time.

I really like my Pro3s and IIRC the Pro4s are the same but better wearing.

  • I am using Challenge Elite open tubular. I did nearly 1000 km in London with no one problem (Bontrager Hardcase Racelights three flats in the first 100 km, horrible tyres in my experience).... The only bad thing is that they are already starting to "ask" to be replaced at the back. Let's say that they lasted more then the Vittoria open Pave', but still not more then 2/3 months. Tried Michelin Pro4 service course too, and I did like them, even if the sidewalls seems to be dedicated to me.

I like the feeling of Vittoria as well as Challenge, but I would also like something that last for some more kilometers.
I would like to try Grand Bois (Cerf Blue Label 26 mm). Any feedback?

[I usually do 20 km commuting a day, 4-50 km club runs on weekly days, 80-140 km in the week end (well... in my "perfect" world)]

  • After a light(ish) road tyre for my cx bike. Want a tyre good enough to see a (positive) difference from the Continental Cyclocross Speed tyres currently on (which will go back on for winter/light off road/hard packed cx), happy to sacrifice pcte resistance as I seem to be quite lucky also happy to sacrifice some durability.

Current shortlist, of wider (might as well use clearance and rim width I have) road tyres

    Schwalbe One (28)
    Clement Strada LLG (28)
    Vittoria Open Pave (27)
Continental GP4000S II (28) - thread favourite, how wide do these run?

They are all around the same price, which doesn't help my decision so I thought I would canvas opinion here in the hope that someone has used one or more of these tyres for my intended use and can help(/tell me I am wrong/suggest another option completely), before I choose one at random?

    Thanks

  • Would suggest Open Pave.

  • Any other suggestions for gumwall tyres?

    • Vittoria Open Corsa SC
    • Grand Bois
    • Veloflex Master

Looking to put them on my '63 Mercian Vincitore so after something vintage looking
