I'd be careful sharing your positive experiences with durano pluses, I was negged last time.
In the past I've found luganos to good enough for daily front tyres, haven't had much experience with them on the rear.

just trying to find something that's alright for everyday commute use on the front in 20c.
There's a good reason why 20c isn't the de facto choice of width...

Panaracer Palesa perhaps? it's a bit in between a touring tyres and a road tyres, not sure how much it'll stand skidding.
It won't. Soft as shite, you'd burn through a Pasela in about 50 feet.
Vittoria Randos are a popular cheap skidder tyre in the US, not sure if they're cheap in the UK though. Amazingly durable tyre. -

Best thing to do is to not skid I suppose.

Two brakes always yeah Scoble? ;-)

You can have none and not skid.

Exactly that, I find I mostly skid just for fun or at the end of a tiring day when I can't be bothered resisting.

Just happened upon the Schwalbe Durano "Skid Fixie" tyre, which I have taken an immediate liking too due to the silly name.
Has anyone ridden them? If so, what are they like?
Verdict: shit…

are continental ultras worth having? i know they're entry level but i cant find any other tyres which are 27 x 1 1/8.

Had 2 of those on my bike and thye both split within a few months. Wasn't a fixie skidder at the time either.
I'm at a bit of a loss with rear skiddy tyres at the minute, used to swear by thickslicks as they lasted months, but I'm having trouble getting them in the UK now. Anyone know where to get them?

Started using a Panaracer Ribmo, seems to be lasting pretty well and there's loads of rubber on it. Not even that slow.

Anyone here tried the durano s?
Looking for something quicker and lighter than a durano but a bit tougher than an ultremo.
-
• #589
I have one, and it fits that description.

Cheers, I'm planning on fitting a couple on the pendle so they'll be used for track short term and other usually quick rides, not really any commuting and little if any skidding so they seem to be what's best.

Put a GP4000s on the front, I've found mine great for puncture resistance and they're reasonably quick.
-
• #592
I guess I could but I'd like to have matching brands even if not matching tyres, any reason not to put one on the rear too?
-
• #593
Don't think they'd take even an occasional skid very well.

hardshell obviously

Got one on now due to lack of a better option available at short notice, had one last year and it lasted all of 3 weeks. Conti super sports seem ok but they feel like they're made out of plastic and slippy as owt

Conti Hardshell, Maxxis Refuse, panaracer ribmo.

In the end I just ordered maxxis detonators because they were about a tenner and I've used the 28c ones before and they were lovely.

Finally found the Tour article on tyre widths, rolling resistance, and vaguely sciencey things - http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/conticycle/road_tyres/GP4000sII/WideRaceTyreTest_TOUR_Magazine_2014.pdf
Interesting read, but wishing they'd involved Grand Bois Cerf's to compare... Ed? 0_o
They didn't test Veloflex 25c or Vittoria Corsa Evos... I wonder how they compare.

I'm about to replace my very old tyres on my road bike (duranos) and was probably going to go for the same ones as they've treated me well over the past few years. However, now there's more choice: do I go for the basic folding Durano, or the (3£) more expensive, ever so slightly lighter Durano S? I don't have a particularly light wheelset, but will I break down and cry every time I get a puncture because I went for the slightly lighter tyre? Also, the cheapest I've found them so far is £29.69/£32.39 on Wiggle, any better places for getting tyres?

Anyone got suggestions for supple sidewalled 25s or 28s?
Something like Michelin Pro Optimum but more durable?
Same here, cut down a fair bit. Pretty happy with 23c for the rear, just trying to find something that's alright for everyday commute use on the front in 20c.
The panaracer has been pretty good so far but I'm used to Durano Plus which is fucking bombproof....
