Just ride tubs.

• #553
Wow, the tyres look huge in that video.
-
• #554
They probably are if they're riding cobbles.

Compass Bicycles are now producing their own tyres, which will probably be great.

I'm going to order their 42mm in all black, actually do you want anything from them before I order it?

Your advice please; this is a michelin pro4 service course which has covered only 50 miles. I don't like the look of the cracking in the picture, it's the same all round and the rear tyre is the same. The bike is always stored hanging up and it has never been left with deflated tyres.
Is this a defect? Should I be worried about it? Is this normal for performance orientated tyres?
I'm riding in the Peak District tomorrow and I'm likely to encounter the fastest descents I've experienced so far and these tyres are making me nervous. What does anyone reckon?

I've had that before with earlier versions of Michelin Pro Race tyres and it didn't seem to have any detrimental effect.
I descended in the Alps with mine and didn't die.

Cheers Andy, I think your positive comments are what led me to these tyres so that's reassuring :)

I think it's the compound they use on these - like a trackday tyre on a motorbike:

Nice one, cheers. It does look like just the softer outer compound thinking about it.

Just happened upon the Schwalbe Durano "Skid Fixie" tyre, which I have taken an immediate liking too due to the silly name.
Has anyone ridden them? If so, what are they like?
-
• #564
were they not out, about 2 years ago?
-
• #565
I had Durano London edition, that I got for a skid competition at the nocturne. They lasted me quite a while and had no punctures. Would be interested to try that one.

Quite possibly, I've never really looked at Schwalbe tyres before.
-
• #567
Schwalbe>continental for most things.
I prefer durano plus to gator hardshell. I can't imagine the skid will be a better tyre for most fixed riders.
-
• #568
But it's called the skid fixie - it's like it's been named after an eBay auction.

In terms of skidding Hardshell > Durano Plus from my experience.
Durano Plus went a little quickly, Hardshells kept together a bit longer.
Anyone know of any decent 20c gumwall clinchers? Something commutable on. If skid-able even better.
-
• #571
20c tyres that's "skid-able" is an oxymoron.
-
• #572
Thought as much, 23c is fitting quite nicely on the back though, so anyone know good gumwalls in 23c that'd be durable?
-
• #573
Panaracer Palesa perhaps? it's a bit in between a touring tyres and a road tyres, not sure how much it'll stand skidding.
-
• #574
Fair bit of tread on it though, could be a possible one.
There don't exist any slightly puncture protective 20c tyres do there? So far I can only find Lugano and the Panaracer Category Elite one I've got on at the mo.

It depend a how much you're skidding, I'd happily run a Lugano rear because I don't skid much.
Conti' usually come up a little smaller than claim.
