Which Tyres?

  • The rest is just used once or twice per month, why invest in high end tyres on these?

I personally find show bikes with cheap tyres look a bit crap - they end up spending a lot of money on frame and components, clean and polish it, but then end up putting cheap crap tubs like Vittoria Rally's on it.

Anyhoo, if you want the trad tyre 'look' for clinchers you can get Veloflex Corsa/Record from Ribble for £50 for 2. Cheap, look good and ride good.

  • how good are spesh turbo cottons? am I going to notice the difference over Open Corsa CX III (for racing)?

  • do you believe in marginal gains?

  • arguably.

Am I right in assuming latex inners will make more difference than changing tyres?

  • I did.

    What's confirmation bias?

  • ALWAYS latex inners, its one of those things that are noticeable IME.

  • riiiight

  • The new cheaper (lower TPI) versions of Challenge tyres come out of Duro in Taiwan

  • I commute on 28mm Gravel Kings and they are good but not like riding on Pavés!

Latex tubes in them would be pointless, they just aren't that supple (and that's a good thing, because even when I forget to pump them and they go down to 40psi they still don't p******e).

Gravel Kings are basically a thinking man's Maxxis Refuse. Putting latex in them would really make ne sense pas.

  • Gotcha! Won't. I use refuse on my fixie.

  • Have decided I don't like gravel kings.

  • The Challenge tyres I mentioned for sure do absolutely not look cheap, they have a very fine, classic typography on the sidewalls, they are handmade proper clinchers, they have a nice classic pattern. Not sure what advantage the Veloflex would have in that use case, while being 2x the price

  • Can anyone recommend a 25 mm all weather tyre that will easily fit a Campag Omega V wheel?
I tried Open Pave's but they are really hard to fit and when I got a puncture at the weekend they were impossible to remove.
Apologies if this is covered elsewhere in this thread.

  • if it's any help the open paves will stretch over time and become easy to fit

  • I've been using mavic yksion elite guard on my roadie which runs on omega vs, and really satisfied with them so far. Don't remember any difficulties fitting them, ca 1000km in and no punctures, grippy and cheap. Been using them for commute too, can't say anything but good.

  • Anybody interested in a pair of Clement Strada LGG 25c with ~400 miles on them? I only took them off to "upgrade" to Corsa G+ but they're in good nick. I think I had one flat but can't see any evidence of cuts anywhere in the tread. Also sidewalls are pretty clean as only ever used in dry conditions and scrubbed every now and then. £30 posted or collect Blackheath if you want to inspect the tread!

  • You should seriously buy a pair of Pedro's tyre levers.

  • Many thanks for all the advice.
I'm going to keep the Pave's as I really like them and hope they become more flexible.
    I'll also order some Pedro's.
    Cheers,
    dave.

    1. Don't like ride feel.

    2. Absolute cunt to get on rims.

  • is it worth use latex tube on gp 4000??

  • yes, next.

  • I've got a set of those rims, and they're a bugger for getting tyres on. Michelin Pro 4 Endurance went on easily a few months ago.

  • Interesting article on the rolling resistance/puncture resistance trade-off, with some actual testing
