Guinness is Cool
Amen.
And so it was that the light was made separate from darkness. The first pint of earth's creation was literally the first "pint" as someone on earth's surface would experience it - a part of opaque light, and a part of darkness. (Guinness 1:3-5)

So this forum ride is promoting cycling and drinking? Some would view that as highly irresponsible!

As if any of the fine, upstanding citizens of this august forum would ever cycle under the influence.....

i was going to suggest the chevy in stratford being as it is a professional drinkers pub and actually has authentic folk jam sessions with real old timers and banjos etc. the guy serving it has a perm from dublin circa 1982 and if memory serves me correctly and i haven't embellished this tale over the years, me and jonny actually saw a guy pass out at the bar drinking. he remained balanced on his head for a few seconds before slowly falling backwards and comatosing himself on the wooden floorboards. he was causally dealt with by a couple of other drinkers.
I hope he was
- part of the band
- the landlord
and - propped back up by the other drinkers and given a fresh pint..
A Real Pub! you don't see that in this black adn gold, leather sofa filled gastro pubs!
- part of the band

So far this ride has a list of thirsty riders and the Toucan, actually it doesn't even have a list. it's a proper piss head ride!
Shall we just sink a pint at the Toucan and lay down a TT around Soho square, then repeat untill Soho Square apears straight

I am astounded that, as far as i can tall, the list of establishments doesn't include anywhere in London's Little Ireland, namely County Kilburn. WTF!? Surely the best pint of Guiness in London will be in that fair country.
Also, what about a Nigerian Guiness specialist, like that WICKED place in Homerton behind the Hospital ... I'll try to find out what its called ...

skully, i have done a bit of research in kilburn recently and have in mind a few places. but it's all about the reccie and working out the pintage/mileage ratio
i will be speaking with aleksi in the near fyootch

Gentlemen
Some updates. The O'Neills in Cannon Street (well top of Queen Street, above Lambeth Bridge) is open 12 noon to 8 in the evening on a Saturday, and does a knock out all day breakfast. Maybe this would be a good starting point to ensure that everyone has fully lined the tummies before we get the party started.
Also, I have a contact up in Kilburn who owns a couple of boozers by the Tricycle Theatre. He is a cyclist as well, and may be inclined to make us particularly welcome.
I have not got along to the posh joint in Mayfair (name escapes me) but will try to get there next week.
Happy to join in with a reccie ride; have you any tentative plans for date and time?
And, at the risk of sounding like a boring auntie, can we cap the event at 4 venues, and make it an obligation that it is one pint of porter, one pint of water? I hate to think of the fall out we would get if there was a major drama during the day, and this information is accessable to the general public, and other authorites who could have a point of view?
Maybe we should move to the privates thread before the final timetable and venues are confirmed?
Yours, in paranoia.

Meet somewhere centralish
- O'Neills
- The Royal Oak-Vauxhall
- Guinness punch (not sure which location)-South of the River
- The Toucan-Central
- Filthy McNasty's-N1
Skully-If you have a place to suggest in Kilburn, put it forward! Nigerian Guinness is like 8% so.....
Bernie-I agree with you about moving this to the private thread once we have a list of places and people, however I don't think we should necessarily cap it at 4. At the end of the day it is up to individuals how much they wish to consume on the day and how much they feel comfortable drinking and riding with. From the response I have received, most of the people attending are drinks regulars who I am sure at times exceed 4 pints in a night and know their limits.
JAH Tim-I think start at around 3/4
for the reccie I am around until the 6th and get back on the 20th so if anyone has an afternoon/evening free from now till the 6th or from the 20th-29th PM/text/call me (number in numbers thread) It will not take long to sort out as there will only be like 5 destinations.

In relation to a reccie ride, I am around this Saturday. Maybe a warm up pint in Vauxhall at 2, and then across Lambeth Bridge to O'Neills so we can check out the all day breakfast.
I can have a word with my contact in County Kilburn, and see if he will entertain us, or feed us to the travelling people.
Also, Brian M (my contact) may be able to put us in touch with his contact at Guinness, as an event t-shirt would be something to behold.

sounds good Bernie, if others are on it, lets do it this sat.

i thought the reccie was on for next thursday evening. i can do it then but not before. but if you want to do it before then of course do. i can spin us out to e15 for the chevy chase if you want no problem when it comes to the ride. i do think we need to venture a bit further than just central though, the miles will help sustain.

@Jonny, happy to roll out on Saturday as suggested, and report back to you with findings, but captured for next Thursday. Is that O.K. or am I adding an unwelcome complexity to the proceedings?
Also, may we worth seeing what it is like doing the ride, at about the same time as we are thinking for the actual event. This is your baby, of course, so you have the final say.

hey johnny if you are in the chevy give me a shout it's the second closest pub to my house i would be prepared to come and asses the quality of the guiness with you if invited !! i've always been a bit scared to go in there on my own to many irish folk watching the horse / dog racing
swill around mouth gargle and spit into spitoon .... yup that'll do
maybe at one of the drinks if we sit down with a map and try to work it out, or if people want to send maps with their own suggested routes, thats also cool.
