  • The only thing I said about next thursday was that I was leaving on that date so unless you guys are plotting against me......;P

How about an evening between Mon-thurs(not including) If not, lets do it between the 20th-28th?

If the reccie crew have a quick meet up and sit down before the ride and plan it out, if anyone has a suggested route including the listed places, bring them forward.

  • Monday ?

  • can't on monday. football. how about Tuesday ending up at norths birthday party? or is that ambitious? possibly

  • the tuesday idea sounds good but we might have to start a little bit early if we want to get to norths before everyone leaves

  • I like the cut of yer jib there Jonny.
    Midday kick off ?

    ha...yeah right

  • @jonny, Ah the Committments

    "Oy'm black and oym proud..."

  • I will be doing my Bob the Builder impressions on Saturday morning, so will be ready to take a pint or three come 2 pm. Will head to Vauxhall, then O'Neills Cannon Street, and then work the A to Z from there to have a peak at some of the suggestions.

All wecome to join if you can make it, and will report back to our illustrious leaders with an update.

PM me some time today, late tonight, if you are coming along, so I do not gallop off and leave you all lonesome. I have put my contact details on the Private thread.

    Yours in thirst.

  • calling coppithat....

could you find out about the Guinness punch Im going to put the route together etc.

  • Any chance of a sequel to this?

  • What news on this Aleksi?

  • sorry guys ive been pretty rubbish I only got back yesterday.

The wonderful Bernie reccied a route for us

Here is his feedback. If some of you guys are free next week to reccie the route and get it properly mapped etc, lets do it. I need to get the guinness puch in there somewhere. If we aim for o'neills for around 6/7 and maybe replace the boozer at the end of bread street with one of Johnny's suggestions.

Well, Lovies, me and Jack Nicholson were leaving Kate Moss' flat at five in the afternoon, and fancied a pint or three. We rang Liam Nesson, a dear close personal friend of mine, and he suggested the following.............

PINT NO.1 Royal Oak, Kennington Lane.

Long bar, bare floorboards, nice and quiet, capacity of 50-70. No dos planned on 29 August. Beautiful pint (roast coffee, perfect temperature) and lovely Granny barmail from County Kerry. Landlord is Gerry McGuinness. Also, great bike parking, down side alley with steel supports for locks. Last thing we want is a claim on E Sure. Calm down, it's only a commercial.

    PINT NO 2. NOT Mulligans

Closed on Saturday no sign as to weekend opening hours.
Very dissapointed, and I had set my heart on two dozen oysters, and a bottle of the Dom Perignon '61 Rose that goes so well with crustacae.

PINT NO 2. The Toucan, Soho Square

Cramped, hot, smelly phone box of a pub. Diffident bar staff; took ages for them to firstly serve, and then finish pint. Plastic glasses for anyone going out side, and "don't chain your bike to our building" by rails nearby. Pint actually quite good. Could take the plastic glasses and wander across to Soho Square, as there is no way you will get a squad from the forum in the pub itself.

PINT NO 3. The Coach and Horses, Wellington Street

Rails outside, nice wide open air conditioned boozer, lovely creamy pint, with proper Guinness "slim trumpet" glass for the half.

**PINT NO 4. Filthy McNasty, off Roseberry Ave. **

Trickey find from the West End, but worth the trip. Would be worth checking when the pub is actually open on a Saturday. Good pint, in a good location.

PINT NO 5. O'Neills, Cannon Street

Just missed the All Day breakfast (last orders 7;30 pm on a Saturday) but have had it before and well worth considering as the line the tummy starter location. Pint was spot on, attentive old school Irish landlord, and real Dublin speed service.

PINT N06. Boozer at the end of Bread street, by Mansion Hs. Tube (name escapes me.)

Really good pint, but the winner was Malay food, given the missed nosh at O'Neills. Hot spicey curry and tasty dipping sauces with the starter platter, just the job to balance the ship, and give non liquid energy for the ride over Lambeth Bridge and the ramble home on the bikes.

  • ^ Jealous...
A report worthy of such a beverage.
Well done Bernie... Looking fwd to sampling the delights in all these venues.
Discussions a plenty over the coming days Aleksi.
    Bridges?

  • its a shame the guinness brewery is no longer in park royal ,, that would have been such a great stop off point.

I applied for a job there. About 3 months before it got shut down. Kinda glad I didn't get it now.

  • shoots I will be missing the bridges ride as I'm bikeless till sunday night but if your around next week or going to one of the drinks let me know

  • i am sooooo pumped for this.

and sad the The Auld Shillelagh isn't included, think i will start my guinnessing there anyway before the ride proper.

  • where is the auld shillelagh? we might be able to fit it in

  • where is the auld shillelagh? we might be able to fit it in

Church Street, Stoke Newington N16. Proper independent Irish pub with colourful landlord, hidden beer garden out back an fantastic pints of guiness, poured to perfection.

Looking at the route above it's not really near any of the others.

  • Sadly, holiday and family commitments mean I cannot make the "real thing" but I hope you band of heros have a superb ride and drink a pint or three of the black stuff.

  • Is there gonna be one of these on the 24th for the anniversary?

  • Might be a bit late for you guys, but if you did go to the Auld Shillelagh it's not far from there to the Bank of Friendship on Blackstock Road. Not the most remarkable pub but they definitely do a good pint of Guinness there. I'd come but I'm moving flat on Saturday...

  • Is there gonna be one of these on the 24th for the anniversary?

Hmmmm... it would seem the appropriate date.
    Aleksi??

  • what anniversary?

  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Guinness. On 31 December he signed (up to) a 9,000 year lease at £45 per annum for the unused brewery.[3] [4]Ten years later on 19 May 1769 Guinness exported his ale for the first time, when six and a half barrels were shipped to England.?

  • “On the 24th of September, at 17:59 local time in Dublin, a global toast will take place in order to raise a glass to Arthur Guinness, and will mark 250 years since he signed a 9,000 year lease on the St. James’s Gate Brewery,”

  • cannot make this saturday's ride. had to sacrifice this or the bridges ride in order to be out of town. if we do it again on 24th september i am there. i will be raising a glass of the black stuff then, and always.
