• i hear you, Mr. O'Hara, but zis eez not ze case. i have tested it without putting any weight or stress on the bars, and still the same click, in the same place, once per Robert Peter Mortlock.

  • Had the same problem a couple of weeks ago - removed and replaced everything drivetrain related, still the clicking persisted...

Finally swapped the rear skewer in desperation - clicking stopped!

Greased the original skewer and replaced it - silence - mystery solved!

  • Could be yer log and cockring.

  • Just switch off the click track, you fucking moron.

  • Just switch off the click track, you fucking moron.

    Ha!

http://www.sheldonbrown.com/creaks.html#bottom has a big list of possibilities. Including the left shoe lace hitting the frame..

  • stem/handlebar connection? crap pedals?

  • you sold me the pedals.

    it's all becoming clear now

  • well, i am an idiot, its my seat clamp.. i think, i changed seats, thinking that the seat bars were moving or something and a few days ago i got so fed up with the noise, i just started to shake the bike to see where it was coming from 90% of the time it was left crank arm down, but then there was the 10% of the time when the noise came from nothing, so it has to to with weight distribution on my seat... i am a fool sorry to waste your guys, time. Cheers

  • i had a similar thing... but mine was the crank arm - i took both cranks off and put them back on the spindle a 90 degrees clockwise and fixed!

  • I have the same issue on my condor bike, tried everything as well. I'm thinking crack in the frame :/

  • Not sure if this site has been mentioned, if not, you might find it helpful...

    http://www.jimlangley.net/wrench/keepitquiet.html

  • tightened the chainring bolts?

that was my suggestion. maybe somethings cracked? :s

  • lol just put my bike together again and I think I figured it out! It is the headset that is making the noise! It's an alu frame so the click travels and is hard to make out where it comes from. So new headset and try it again!

  • I'll give you £50 for your bike.
    Click gone.
    Problem solved.

  • still not solved it, taken bars and stem off and re-fitted.

  • Are you greasy everything when you refit it?
    Are you tightening stuff correctly?
If you lean on the crank whilst off the bike can you make it make the noise? It's easier to track down while there's no road buzz.. got a stand to sit the bike on? Does it only happen when applying lots of pressure to pedals or can you get it just spinning the cranks? How's your chainline? Did you try a different chain? It still sounds like a bb, crank or chainring thing to me..

  • i'm greasing everything that should be greased, yes.

yes, i have put a different chain on it too.

yes, it clicks when i apply pressure off the bike. i agree, it must be coming from bb or crank area, surely. it happens in to precise a place. BUT, newly fitted BB , by a decent bike shop...i dunno.
i might take it down to them this week see if they can isolate it.

  • it's not loose valve nut?

  • I know you've stripped the pedals, but have you tried another pedal in there just to check?

  • have you tried restarting your pc.

  • I know you've stripped the pedals, but have you tried another pedal in there just to check?

i did yes. noise was still there. however, now i want to check again, and i've since sold the pedals...!

  • Crack in the frame (seat-tube/BB or chainstays/BB interface)?

It's time we moved on to the heavy shit.

  • I think BMMF could be onto something. I had this with a bike years and years ago and spent weeks stripping it and re-greasing before discovering it was due to a crack in the frame.

  • You can isolate the pedals by putting pressure directly on the cranks rather than pedals.

Have you got someone who can put pressure on the cranks whilst you look VERY closely at the frame? You can DIY it's just easier to have someone bounce the crank while you look

  • Have you tried putting pressure on other parts of the frame. If you have a cracked BB it would make a noise if you put pressure on the seat post for example.
