My road bike has a double click whenever the drive side crank is at around 2pm (as viewed from that side).
It's kind of rhythmical and is my friend whenever we are out together.
Does this make sense?

Those frames are very flexy, enough to 'ghost shift' when running gears. Shouldn't have much impact on fixed as no gear cable.

yeah, i'm starting to think you may be right. it's in the LBS now for a 3rd party opinion.

I also had/have the same problem and it's the crank arm wedging itself on the bb spindal, ended up needing a new bb and new crankset.

oh dear.
A pal of mine had a condor bike that went around the seat cluster, seat tube cracked. They told him was either 'too heavy' (he's about 8 stone!) or was 'riding it too much' (he rides from Epsom to the city and back to work).
In fairness, they sorted him with a new frame, in warranty. That one has a problem that the seat clamp doesn't work. They told him to shim it. :{

Any thoughts on this much appreciated.
About 2 weeks ago, quite out of the blue, i set off on my bike and noticed that, when i stood sup on the pedals, there was a distinct clicking noise, once per revolution. The sound reverberates around the steel frame, as they tend to.
It seems to be when i put weight on the left pedal/crank, when it comes up to a 3/4 rear position, when it's around the same area as the chainstay.i've tried a few things - I rebuilt the eggbeater pedals, as it needed doing, no joy.
ive serviced the drive chain - something i do regularly anyway.i've even tightened and cleaned the saddle/seatpost, since these clicky noises often seem to come from there, even it it seems unlikely.
but the noise is still there. Could it be the BB? i've had the bike nearly 2 years, does it need servicing?
i don't know anything about BBs, really, so wouldn't know where to start.I have also had this problem recently and having tried all the above suggestions removed by back wheel and loosend the bolts marginally when i replaced since then i have not heard the sound again the wheel bolts are obviously still tight enough to hold the wheel in place . being completey ignorant of any mechanical or metallurgic principles i do not fully understand why this solution worked.

Maybe your rear axle is bent, or something's cracked in your rear hub bearing assembly?

that does not appear to be the case
-

You've been and disassembled your rear hub already?
Impressive.

no but i gave it a look over when i took the back wheel out i was wondering if having the bolts over tightened in the frame had caused the chain to run out of alignment and if for some reason this had caused the clicking noise although i dont understand why this might be the case

Stupid suggestion but have you checked your chainring for a damaged tooth/teeth?
As everything seems to have been covered if its not this I'd be worried about a cracked frame.I just cured a creaking under stress noise on the BJ by removing regreasing and tightening down the drive chain (BB, chainring bolts, the works). Whats driving me nuts now, is that I have no idea which of these things fixed it grrr!.

well, it's been at the LBS for the last 2 days and they're stumped. they've also covered it in grease, which is nice.
they didn't try another set of wheels, though, as they're not a hipster bike shop so didn't have any track wheels about.
crack in the frame has been all but ruled out, having been thoroughly inspected.

Not helpful.
Can you borrow some new wheels?
-
• #591
not easily, i don't live in the east end of London.
i think it's related to the cranks, probably. need to try another pair on there, which isn't easy either.

Guess What!
I was cleaning the chain, removing some of the gunk the LBS shoved on there, and noticed one of the chainring teeth had a big ding in it. then i noticed some more. probably down to the recent resurfacing on the roads round here.
so, i spent some time filing and rubbing down the teeth, till they were all smooth.
and guess what?
the noise is still there.
i'm going outside now, i may be some time.

That sucks. Clicks like this can slowly turn you into what tynan would term, a 'window licker'.

Wanna ride my Condor*.. just to make sure it's not all in your head? :)
*not a euphemism
-
• #595
it's not in my head, the LBS said so after they gave my condor* a damn good seeing to.
still not a euphemism.
-
• #596
i've decided to accept it now, and convince my self that the clicking sound is in some way desirable.

haven't read all of this thread, couldn't be bothered.
my clicking always seems like its coming from the BB, somethimes i can feel it in the whole frame. It's the bearings in the hub or the BB being stressed too much from a too tight chain (or bearings tightened too much esp. in the hub). eventually the bearings will fail and you'll need new ones, or new bb/hub depending on how long you ride it with the noise .

it does only occur if you get out of the saddle though, so it's a good training device.

i might bring it to West drinks, try someone elses wheels on for size.

let me give it a right good seein' to.
Yeah, yanking the chainstays and seatstays was how I found the daylight shining through my GT frame :)
