I reckon it could be what 31t®um said, a loose chainring bolt.
Take em all out, clean them and re-grease them and then tighten them to buggery
I had a similar problem to you, exhausted all other possibilities and then found out it was the chainring bolts. Only problem is that you said it was coming from the left crank arm

Check for any cracks in the BB shell, might be fuckered.

yes, i think you're right. i didn't actually see that suggestion from Murtle the Turtle until now, wish i had noticed it before.
i don't know if it's coming from the left crank, it's probably not, just seems to make the noise if i lean on that side, but that doesn't mean much.

shoes?
tried different pedals? tightened the chainring bolts?
even check the wheel for loose spokes
.....
checked the BB area of the frame for.......cracks....?

i couldn't understand what you said...
anyway, it WAS a shimano BB in my bike, fucking condor don't seem to know their stuff.
seatpost - i took it out and cleaned it... plus it makes the noise when i stand up, and when the cranks are in one position only. seems odd.

shoes?
nope, does it with any shoes on, cycling or normal.
tried different pedals?
yep
tightened the chainring bolts?
just done it
even check the wheel for loose spokes
seems fine
checked the BB area of the frame for.......
cracks....?
can't see any.
confounded science, it has.

I have the same problem and i figured out today what it was...
Basically the non drive side crank arm kept coming loose and now the hole has become to slightly to big for the spindal on the bb and has now wedged itself on there. The clicking was it stripping the bb spindal. If any of that makes sence?

• #540
have you tried a different set of cranks?
or a different bike?
-
• #541
well, the BB was changed today, so i would doubt that's the case... i certainly hope not, anyway.

yeh, i borrowed a mates bike, it still does it.
-
• #543
i am now wondering if the shimano BB condor incorrectly fitted when they built it has damaged the cranks.

it's your pacemaker.

somewhere on sheldon he goes on about what happens when you mix JIS and ISO tapers..
sure if one has a sharper taper and you fit the other sort of cranks on, it'll open the crank's square hole up won't it? in a not very good way.
condor of all places eh?

• #545
oh and I forgot:
take it back to Condor, lean it against the counter, say "just do it won't you" in a loud voice and wave dismissively as you leave, pop down to saville row, drop in to your tailor and pick up that herringbone waistcoat you meant to get four years ago, by the time you get back Condor will have magically repaired your bike, they will hand it over free of charge in a simpering and subserviant manner.

Where the click seems to come from is irrelevant.
With that in mind, have you removed/cleaned/refitted your handlebars, and loosened/retightened your brake hood clamp bolts?
Have you checked your computer magnet isn't hitting the sensor (unlikely cause)?
Do you have/have you tried other wheels - little grooves can form where the spokes cross, and start to click under stress - very fucking annoying?
Have you checked your headset is tight (apply front brake firmly & try to rock bike back and forth)?
Er...

no, i guess all these things are next on the list. the click does very noticeably appear when weight is placed on the left pedal though.
i don't have other wheels and stuff, but i'll do the bars/stem/brakes thing -

but WHY would the click occur when the cranks are in exactly the same place every time? it has to be related to that vicinity.

When you put weight on the left pedal, you also pull up hard on the left side of the handlebars - which also puts twisting forces on the wheels - the knee bone's connected to the...
