Same thing with speed cameras, they don't judge dangerous driving, only driving over an arbitrary limit which someone (usually who has little knowledge in the area) has decided is the limit of safety.
Same thing, they do not work and they piss people off.
they do work though, drive within the speed limit and they won't take a picture of you.
seriously, I've tried it and it works.

I've always really wanted the government to turn around one day and say "You know what, we tried SHOWING you where the speed cameras are, and you still didn't slow down. So guess what, now we're going to hide them, and stick them fucking EVERYWHERE. If you speed even a little bit, we will fucking have you. How'd you like THAT, pricks? Oh, and we're raising the fine to like £200."
I'd really like to see the the look on the faces of people who were originally saying "It's all just a money grabbing scheme!" when it really does turn into a money-making witch hunt. You're breaking the law, stop fucking whinging.*
- This is not to say all laws are right ect, but speed limits are not ethical or moral, they are, echoing JDB's comments above, a scientifically tested and easily enforcable method to make everyones lives arguably safer.
and now, a comic.

I like speed cameras. they mean i can drive really slow and take a breather from the inevitable race i get in with anyone moving.
moaning about the bike speed camera is stupid.
just go the speed limit. leave earlier, take your time, enjoy the journey. -

I have no idea how sarcastic you're being...

+1 that is a funny cartoon imo-nice post.
as to speeding on the prom (where the brass bands play tiddly om pom pom)
who wants to even go anywhere near there in the day anyway during grockle season?should be a coordinated response appearing in Echo soon anyway, their journalism was lazy, and did nothing to balance the number of actual ped-bike incidents compared with the massive amount of road vehicle-ped/bike incidents that occur every year.
down yere in dooreset we loooves scapegoating my luvvver..........

Just get them to stick some white paint on the floor. One side for the scrotes and the other for the nodders.

Most people run faster than 10mph, catch them too?
If I recall correctly, my jogging speed is quite fast. I went into a shop to get some shoes and they had a posh machine to assess my gait and they suggested 8-ish mph, which felt like a brisk walk, so I think I'd wound it up to about 12/13mph before I was happy.
I am obviously a reckless danger whilst running - shoot me now, before I kill somone..!!

Surely this is just an excuse to go to Bournemouth and, when confronted with a man seemingly pointing a hairdryer at you rest groin upon stem and pull an epic skid?
-
• #38
Be funny to ride straight into the fucker
-
• #39
TBH I never ride down the promenade unless it is winter because there a tons of peds getting in my way. Fuck em, the real issue is the fact that pretty much all the cycle ways around here are usually poorly thought out, like the cycle lane over sterte bridge ... probably the only place in bournemouth and poole I ain't worried about being run over is sterte bridge since cars can't cane it over there.

Mikec- I don't think they check you speed from inside a lambo?
-
• #41
Hold on a sec - this is in Bournemouth. Who gives a shit?

Cue Daily Mail counter argument.
As someone with a decent background in traffic engineering I call total bunk on this argument. A lot of effort goes into designing roads and highways and a lot of factors are taken into account when selecting the speed limit for a section of road. Line of site and stopping distance are usually the main limiting factors and the thing that most motorists are totally unaware of. You have to provide the motorist with sufficient line of site to be able to spot a 0.5m high obstacle on the road and then have time to stop before hitting this object. This is to stop motorists running over things like pedestrians, crashed cyclists and animals all of which may end up lying in the middle of the carriageway. Most motorists are totally unaware of this kind of risk and will happily rip along, swearing at the "money grubbing police" using speed cameras to raise funds not stop accidents. There are some many factors of safety used in car and road design that the speed limit is in no way a reflection of the true speed a vehicle can travel along the road at, it is however a speed that will provide the majoprity of motorists with the safest most efficient journey.
All that you've said is all true, however you've gotta agree that there are many places where the speed limits are just ridiculous, plus why should people have to stick to a speed that's safe at a time where the roads are very busy when it is 2am and there's barely anyone else about? You can't just say that one speed is safe and 1mph above is unsafe, how about the many occasions where road conditions have been horrible (heavy rain/fog/ice) and people still continue to go at the speed limit not realising the danger they're putting themselves and others in, this has caused many large pile ups where people have been going too fast for the conditions, but under the speed limit, you can't just have one number that is safe for all conditions but is a realistic speed to be travelling at most of the time.
they do work though, drive within the speed limit and they won't take a picture of you.
seriously, I've tried it and it works.
So what's the problem with this beach limit? Stay under it and you'll be fine.

what do you mean, a two year old girl was slightly injured FFS!
are you some kind of immigrant, child killing, drug dealer?
this madness must stop before more innocent toddlers are put in danger of the slight chance of wandering in front of a moderately paced cyclist!
you people are killing the country, your type is murdering the pensioners that fought seven world wars just so you could eat ice-cream and kiwi fruits. Scum, death's too good for you, you ought to be castigated, circumcised, tarred and feathered and given the black spot.

I assume so, yes. I don't know what the "problem" is, but some people are complaining that the enforcement of this speed limit is using resources that would be better served doing something else.
a bit like internet access and this thread really

Well for me at least the problem is people enforcing laws that really shouldn't be enforced, seems like a silly thing to do in my opinion, and to a smaller extent it's a waste of money, no need to be so blunt about it, if you see it as a waste of time just move along and go do something productive.

where I come from they DO hide the speed cameras (behind rubbish bins or trees) or have them in unmarked parked police cars, and will fine you $120 and a few points off your licence for doing 64km/h in a 60km/h zone down a hill.
they also have sneaky 40km/h zones near schools, but only between 8:30-9:30am, and 2:30-4pm. this means you not only have to bang on the brakes near schools, but you also have to check your watch first.
if you can't avoid a clearly marked speed camera then you deserve to be parted from your money.

speed cameras for bikes are a load of shit though.

This notion of "arbitary speed limits" mainly arises because the explanation of background studies, locally and nationally determined policies, local studies on traffic density and adjacent facilities and other justifications is rarely, if ever, provided to the public. I suspect that may be due to the public's limited attention span and overriding belief that they know better because they've been driving down that road since it all used to be fields.
