2009-07-11 Sat 9am - Southend Seaside Jaunt (Because Long Rides are Fun)

Reckon the 9am start could arrive in SoS by 3-4, if last year's ride is anything to go by. We stopped for only one flat that day though, I think.

So no chance of making it back for the memorial ride on a 9am start then eh, thats a shame, nevermind.

Having second thoughts about this, Oliver Schick's comment has prompted me to think we should stick together.

Would rather join the big ride than start a splinter and generate bad vibes! i guess, Hovis, wools, hoonz, we should only do this if, say, ten or more people want to. Otherwise I'd rather stick with the 9am and keep it in the fold. As I said up there, I was only floating the possibility, not demanding it.

ok. either would be fine with me. let's see if there are any other interested in doing the 7am run, otherwise, 9am it is. i guess there's a week to gauge it.

super tempted, i've never done a ride this long fixed and the rest of the weekend is going to be dedicated to dissertation fun. is anyone else fairly slow, though? i'd rather not go than feel like i'm holding everyone up the whole way...

thinking about joining the ride if i can make it - how hilly is the route? say compared to the london brighton?

evans - some rolling country but no big climbs. Gets flatter about the half way point onwards.

I am going for geared. I am gonna stay in a b&b then ride back Sunday.

London to Paris in 2 weeks so am trying to get some back to back longer rides in on my road bike.

Would love to do this fixed. Next time.

Provisionally only at the moment. I have a massive headcold and after DD not sure if my missus will let me out for *another *long ride.

Very tempted, putting my name on a list is always bad luck for me (last time involved a trip in an ambulance the day before a ride).

I'll probably be there though.

I'm doing this geared, because my single-speed is making dangerous noises and I'm too busy/lazy to find out where they're coming from.

Take a nice easy gear circa 70 inches and spin your way to victory!

Really considering this one as I missed the Brighton one. I've never done any long distance cycle like this before and I can just imagine myself collapsing somewhere in the middle of the countryside. ha.
