  • Very sad. I rode through there at about midnight on 15th and the road was partially blocked and police everywhere, no Ambulance, I thought just one of the many little prangs that happen on that roundabout.

  • RIP and deepest sympathy to her family and friends. Hope they find the driver, it blows my mind that someone could drive away from something like that.

  • I hate reading these threads.

    R.I.P.

  • And the first comment is the obligatory anti-cyclist rant from some nobber. How distressingly predictable :-(

  • Thanks for seconding me, Steff.

  • typical anti-cyclist comment. How utterly heartless. It roused me to post a retort.

    RIP.

  • The little homily in the final paragraph is the icing on the cake. I don't think I would get tired of punching "Matt" very quickly.

  • So a lorry driver leaves the scene of a fatal accident. How could anyone think that he might have done something wrong?

  • The first comment on that article is absolutely disgraceful.

    I think they have a point !
Blame is always slung towards the person in a vehicle. which is not always the truth is it ?

  • The person in the vehicle is not always to blame but if blameless, why break the law by quitting the scene?

No, w-d-h. The comment you mean would read: 'Hold on, everybody, please don't jump to conclusions just yet, until the investigation of the collision is completed.'

This comment reads: 'Ah, but cyclists aren't always in the right (as the predictable lycra fascists always claim), so it could have been the cyclist's fault'.

It's especially stupid because, if he knew Barry, he'd hang his head in shame.

  • Hmm, they don't seem to have posted my response. I read the terms and conditions of their messageboard.

Matt's post is clearly infringing this. However, as it was probably posted by the evening standard as a method of 'stirring up debate', I doubt it will be taken down.

There is a possibility he didnt realise what had happened.

Sorry, but do you really think this is worth discussing?

How is it clearly infringing? All that says is "we get to choose what goes up" and presumably they think it's fine, in page-view terms if nothing else.

  • sad news, rip

    ride safe folks

  • The person in the vehicle is not always to blame but if blameless, why break the law by quitting the scene?

May be the driver didnt even realise they hit someone.... either way its disgusting .

I hope they find the driver very quickly indeed.

  • The bonehead's comment has disappeared, as has the "Speke Yore Braines" button. Interesting.

  • This is sad. Any time I cycled around there it was ok, just goes to show, it only takes one cockfiend in a truck.

  • The fact that the comment's disappeared may have something to do with the fact that I just complained to the editor about the comment itself, and the fact that it is highly inappropriate to speculate about the cause of death. I was also considering contacting the PCC.

  • Good on yer, coshgirl.

  • I drove past the scene in the same direction on A102 a few minutes after it happened. Honestly, it was horrible and sickening to look at as the lorry literally run over the cyclist. All my best wishes to the family of that woman. Rest in peace!

So you saw it, did you(or anyone) not get a plate/vehicle ID or think to chase it?

Well done. I'm sure you weren't the only one.
