No, I bought it from brisa.com
I'm not making this one either. My old man works at a school where they teach iron age and middle ages crafts and culture. I commisioned a japanese inspired kitchen knife blade from their smiths line. They usually only make smaller stuff like arrow heads and whittling knifes so it's going to be fun to see how this one pans out. -

Definitely porn but doesn't look comfortable to hold, I like that step from handle to blade to pinch with forefinger and thumb. Not sure I'd like the rounded tip either, there's no way that'd be good for fish like the pictures allude to.

Hello groovers, not been here for a while, but here goes.
Last weekend I was off hiking through the pissing rain on the Moors when I spotted a sheep in trouble beside the road. It had a thick bramble wrapped around its neck and was having a bit of a panic, baa-ing and so forth. Quick as a flash I fumbled out my knife and slashed i̶t̶s̶ ̶s̶t̶u̶p̶i̶d̶ ̶s̶h̶e̶e̶p̶y̶ ̶t̶h̶r̶o̶a̶t̶ the bramble, freeing the lovely little baa-lamb.
But just as I was playing the hero, a wild and rather unexpected policevan appeared! The roz got out and approached me, (one of them carrying a pair of comedy bolt croppers) fortunately they'd spotted me freeing the sheep and were not interested in the knife I'd used to do it which may have been a good thing as it's a multitool with a locking blade.
Then I continued my walk and used it as justification for eating three Clif bars in one sitting.
Does anyone use their knife for similarly awesome adventures? And what's the score with a short but locking blade on a multitool that generally lives in the bottom of a backpack full of biking / hiking gear?
Oh, it's a Gerber Suspension, no porn here but nice design and functional.

I wouldn't worry. You just proved that you have a use for it. Unless you wave it at someone, or try to take it into one of those nightclubs you're always frequenting, there shouldn't be a problem.
-
• #783
Cheers dude, I'm not sure it's possible to frequent a nightclub as infrequently as I do.
Is that a D&B mag in your lanyard pic? Didn't know such a thing existed.

I thought the law was basically no blades longer than 6 inches and no quick to open knifes (flick knives)?

anything that locks and/or is over 3" (if think??) is (by British law) illegal.
Here ya go!
"Basic laws on knives
It is illegal to:sell a knife of any kind to anyone under 18 years old (16 to 18 year olds in Scotland can buy cutlery and kitchen knives)
carry a knife in public without good reason - unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, eg a Swiss Army knife
carry, buy or sell any type of banned knife
use any knife in a threatening way (even a legal knife, such as a Swiss Army knife)
Lock knives (knives with blades that can be locked when unfolded) are not folding knives, and are illegal to carry in public without good reason." -

To clarify, AFAIK:
All the illegal (banned) knives are either over 3 inches in blade length, have a fixed blade, or a hidden blade, or a blade that locks (with a mechanism, not tension), or are opened with one hand.
If you carry a fixed blade above 3" on your person (but not a banned blade like above), you need to be able to convince the officer that discovers it (which shouldn't happen anyway, unless you've done something silly/naughty) that you are carrying it for work or in some other reasonable capacity (not 'self defense') . If you don't, (or if you've already done something silly/naughty) they are obliged to assume that such a blade is intended to be used as a weapon, arrest you, and then you have to prove otherwise in court after the fact.
If you carry a non-locking, sub 3" blade that can only be reliably opened with both hands, you are technically free from the burden of proving anything. Although again, if you do something naughty while carrying it, or try to take one into a place where you don't need it (a nightclub, a sportsground, a hospital, an airport etc) you're asking for trouble and all bets are off.
All knives and blades (and bricks/screwdrivers/potatoes etc) can potentially be classed as offensive weapons if used as such, or if they are use to threaten as such. It's all about context.

Without good reason, such as sheep rescue on open moorland

I use my pocket knife all the time, can't imagine not having one on me...

+1, and not actually stabbed / slashed / threatened / waved about/ pointed, at anyone in the 20+ years I have carried a pocket knife.

I'm fortunate in that I am allowed to carry an 'illegal' blade whilst on duty ....I just keep it on my uniform trouser belt. I also have another two in different pockets in my tunic and leggings. I have used them a lot for their intended purpose .
Unfortunately, I don't wear my uniform off duty! -

No-one can carry the illegal ones, in any situation. The illegal ones are all classed as offensive weapons outright (Swords n flick knives n shit).
-

The law sounds pretty reasonable here, I have had a Swiss Army knife in my pocket everyday for almost 30 years, I've got a Leatherman with a locking blade that I carry when hiking/camping. My understanding is that both of those, in those situations, are fine.

Stabbing?
The law is very nice here though I do wish that it would be acceptable to carry swords on you're person.

Undecided if this should be in knife porn or utility but I bought myself a knife while I was in France. It is an opinel no9, from decathlon for 8euro http://www.decathlon.fr/opinel-n9-id_8111973.html It is a lovely knife, just feels right in your hand. It is light and comfortable to use, have even used it as a chefs knife as it is a new toy and I wanted to use it.
If anyone wants a feel can meet up at drinks to let you have a go.

Opinels are the definition of a functional knife.
These things just work, feel good and are cheap to replace.
Like a FKNPNA maybe
Oh and also they look good, so, right place to be. Or is there a functional knives thread? -

Also last well, and a design icon in the V&A. ;)
Got a kitchen knife from TKMax for an emergency as I need a knife that I would use once and then see how it lasted. Avoid the cyclist threatner's brand and all the fake sabtier blades, I picked up an ambition titanium 15cm cooks knife.
Has a nice wieght to it and cuts well, the handle is real wood and the blade has a nicer taper to it.
This to me looks like it would be a delight to hold and use....
More here.....
