Whilst on the subject of Hope... I want to build a dynamo wheelset so I'm after a rear hub... I'd had Hope Mono RS in mind, silver, 32hole... I've just found a pair of lightly used Chris King Classics (front and rear) for a similar price to a new rear Hope... which should I go for?
(the chunkier Classic will 'match' the SP dynamo front aesthetically but is a CK rear + Dynamo an odd combo?)
Cheers,

It will be mis matched either way so it's just a matter of personal preference...

Mind blown.
I thought of something else though, a wider tyre will use more material, and therefore be heavier, which affects acceleration. So wider tyre might have lower friction in one area, but are they really faster?

Do the maths if you think that's really relevant, but the great thing about wider rims is that you can still use your 23C tyres and they ride and handle better than 25C tyres on narrow rims, at about the same total weight. Also, in many cases, your aeros will be better with a rim about the same width as the tyre.

wh-6800 internal width - why can't I find you?!

Just took delivery of the Superstar Pave 28 wheels - not quite on the advertised 1533g for the pair. On my scales it's 1700 exactly. Which is OK. I'll put some tyres on and take em for a spin. Hopefully the tightness in the front hub eases after a few miles. They certainly seem built well enough, although I did have to fish out some swarf from the front rim.

Ooof. That's a bit of a difference...
-
• #5110
I know, I'll give them the benefit of doubt as my scales could be a little off and it's still lighter than the 3t acceleros (1890g) on the other bike. I've got a feeling superstar have Italian scales though.

I think the weight is without rim tape, if I remember the White/red rim tape is on the heavier side.

1700 is about right even with lasers and alu nips. 1533g sounds like the weight of the tub wheelset.

Hope ery tme.

1533 does sound like a 20/24 wheelset.
-
• #5115
Superstar state 1330g for the tub wheelset.
For the clinchers:
The clincher rims are 512g each
243g rear hub
78g front hub
+44 lasers (approx 4g each) and alu nips (0.4g each)
Totals 1533 before rim tape. -

Then at least one of those component weights are off.

They weighed their copy at 1640g with rim tape

@miro_o did you bother weighing your arc31 set?
I don't actually care about the 1700g weight, I think that's acceptable for the price and what they are but it would be nice to have the weight stated accurately in the first place.
FWIW, the rims have 490g etched into them and there's no way the front hub is just 78g! more likely 178.
In any case, tyres are getting mounted right now and I'm going for a test spin.

I just pulled all those figures off their website, I think I weighed my set of at around 1650 or so when I got them. Not using them alot at the moment, as its chinese carbon season!

What it's worth is that the rims are probably 490g +5% if you drill 32 holes in them

Because Shimano have suddenly got a lot worse at providing decent information. According to Rosebikes, they are 15mm, which sounds right.

Thanks! shoulda got those...
I just got back from a traffic filled spin and they're OK. Very stiff, not overly lively though and they don't start to sing at higher speeds like the 3T's I'm used too. They are solid, corner well and braking seems nice so they are perfect for what I need them for.

ORLY
Show me a Shimano hub that has ever done this. They CNC alu billet with random flaws and grain alignment whilst even cheapest Shimano get forged first.

Google image search shows a few shimanos with busted flanges, but nothing like this (http://i5.pinkbike.com/photo/1682/pbpic1682410.jpg)
What do you mean? You just slot it in and press the rubber cap.
