  • It's a joke about your inability to make decision. Maybe it was too subtle.

  • Or maybe I'm tired. Probably the second one.

Oh and I'm rubbish when it comes to making decisions.

  • OK pulled the trigger went with the A23 Miche primato 32h build. DT comp double butted spokes.

£258 posted. Pretty damn good price!

Can't wait to get them now!

Andy can you decide what road wheels I should get for <£400. It's all so confusing. I seem to be snapping the spokes on a weekly basis of my current wheels :) and you know so much about these sort of things

  • Mavic Open Pro or Ambrosio Excellence laced 3x to the best 32 hole hubs you can afford. Get Arup to build them for you.

  • What about Velocity A23 rims? Lighter than Mavic OP

  • Mike wants reliability, I've no idea how reliable the Velocity A23s are. Weight doesn't come into it.

Cheers Andy. Will look into it

They've been used by plenty of people for Cycle cross, also easier to build with than the Open pros. Surely that's saying something?

  • Chris King R45 hmm nice. Not sure the wife would like me to spend £300 on a hub

  • Are Schwalbe Blizzard Sport tyres any good?

  • Ultrimos were the first road tyre Schwalbe have made that had grip. Blizzard Sports have fuck all grip and little puncture protection.

  • @ spenceey - you should really have a read of this: http://www.lfgss.com/thread5985.html

Otherwise you'll just get another rendition of that thread.

Even if you don't want to read the whole thing, the list on the first page is good. Have a look and work out where you're priorities lie:

    • "Designed as puncture resistant"
    • "Designed as slightly puncture resistant"
    • "Designed as lighter, fast training, or race tyres"

Obviously everyone wants a fast, light, grippy, long lasting and puncture resistant tyre that's competitively priced. But they don't exist. You need to strike a balance somewhere, and that's really your call.

  • Even the schwalbe blizzard kevlar folding? Surely if they are kevlar that counts for something?

  • Just get ultremos or gp4000's. Simple.

  • Ultremos are lightening quick, light as feather, and have oodles of grip.

Last as long a rizla rain coat.

  • They've been used by plenty of people for Cycle cross, also easier to build with than the Open pros. Surely that's saying something?

I see more Mavic and Ambrosio rims at cyclocross races than Velocity.

Who says they are easier to build with? That's purely subjective and, as Mike won't be building the wheels, irrelevant.

  • If none of you feckers is going to try out those Stans rims. I will.

Just as soon as the fatbikes finished.............and the commuters been upgraded.

I'd say the OP would be easier. Double eyelets make life easier IMHO.

  • I think I'm going to get the Stan's.

Quick work out of the costs is:

    #1 - C2's + SuperLights + bling spokes/bling nipples = £375.09
    #2 - Stan's + " + bling spokes = £315.23
    #3 - A23's + " + ACI's = £228.80

Soooo... I'm thinking option #2. Because it should be the lightest, and it's sufficiently wide, and I could try tubeless to see if it works. Altho, I do wonder whether it's worth saving the extra £60.

The only thing is, I really want black spokes... and if you (Smallfurry) are saying the black ano is shit, then I'm actually tempted to look elsewhere - as silly as it seems. If my frame was almost any other colour, I'd be all over silver, silver black, but I just think it'll look silly.

Would internal nipples be a silly idea if you were going tubeless?

    The blacks not too bad.

Internal nipples will be a PITA, with tubless.

  • SwissComp cabling from EBay.

Got a link? Can't seem to find anything...

  • PITA ?

  • PITA = Pain in the arse
