Having been whacked over the head with a mallet end last night after several near misses I'm thinking of wearing a helmet, something to protect my face as well. Anyone already wearing something suitable?
Cheers
MartinMartin, i have an ice hockey helmet with a full face guard you could have for a suitable price.

I've merged the polo gloves and protection threads. Gloves were being discussed in the protection thread, and a one thread source makes more sense. Werd.

They are great and adjustable, just a bit too small for me.
I would have to look to see what size it is.

...as well as this guy at the opens, I'm becoming more interested in things that cover the face.
More over I'm interested to know what people are using for gloves and knee/shin protection. I've seen people wearing what range from MX gloves to huge chunky gloves, and some awesome looking knee and shin combo pads.
that foto makes me feel sick..
gloves are pretty essential because when you scratch your palms after a fall your grip is usually worse, this is why people are wearing them.
The hefty gloves are for people who REALLY don't want anything to get in the way of them playing on.
the question is 'how badly do you want to keep playing?'
thats the way i see it -

people dont wear gloves just for the palms, more end more people are concern about the fingers, and has happen now a few times that fingers are badly hurt during a game.
and to answer your question 'how badly do you want to keep playing?'
Imagine, just imagine, having a broken thumb and not be able to do normal life or not playing polo for 2-3 weeks... I want to keep playing very, very badly! -

Yep I have hurt my hands three times over the last two weeks, gloves seem a necessity to keep playing.

I'm not that worried about missing an afternoons polo, but a broken finger would esentially stop me being able to work.
Not to mention not being able to masterbate.

No, the leather is thin on the inside. A few people have played with similar. They're made for riding...
Where can I buy this?
These very ones? Send me a PM.

I know this is old but it's worth responding to. The reason I wear lacrosse gloves is precisely because my thumb was broken by an accidental mallet strike in September last year. A year on it still hasn't fully healed and I will have permanently reduced dexterity in it.I like being able to use my hands, thus protective gloves just make sense.

I agree with you here. I've been rapped across the knuckles a few times, both bar side and mallet side. More mallet side I think, but can't really remember. Most of my hand injuries are from falling on them.
What side are people finding they are getting hit more on? Some folks in NA have suggested mtb handlebar bashguard on bar side, but more for run-ins with walls.

i get rapped across the hand by peoples mallets often, but my bar hand takes a lot of abuse, because i'm small my bars are often lower than other peoples and their bars go into my hand.

Just bought myself a cricket helmet, and i've bought back my old cricket gloves from my parents place, want to try them out before I buy any other gloves.
So just some whites, and I can play extreme cycle cricket...

I bought this Ice hockey gloves in a second hand store here in Berlin a couple of weeks ago
I havent get used to play with them, as with other protections I had try, I feel restrain and busy.If anybody want them give a shout, £20, I can take them with my this coming weekend for the BFF
They are in very good condition, they have a rip in one thumb, but there is another piece of leather in place.
the size, the labels are blank, so no "official" size, but there are BIG, they fit me nicely
