physics fail.
Reality fail.
Something can be less dense, but if you have to use more material than in steel frame you aren't actually any lighter are you? Theory has to be put in to practise matey. -

Mash f+f 54cm is 560g
Can't say I know where you're going with this
mmm, not sure a F+F actually exists that weighs that. Even the super light carbon frames are 700-800g and the lightest fork is around 200g.
The mash frame will be around 1500g compared to a steel frame which if in same price bracket would be around 1750g.

The lightest steel frame I've seen are 1600g which is pretty good, is there any steel frame lighter than that?
saying that, frame weight doesn't matter that much when it come to riding, the BMW Gangsta were pretty heavy at a little over 2000g for the frame only (definitely over 2000g), but it's the most fun, livery, and comfortable bike I've ever ridden insofar, better than my Condor Pista frankly.

Wahey! Pistys back! Old news but still wanted to acknowledge it. This and other threads have missed your jovial ways.
Shame you're still talking shit about alu welds tho. Didn't u learn anything on your sabbatical?
Moaning about alu welds is like moaning that chocolate makes for a shit teapot. Yep its tricky to weld but hey, its a third of the weight of steel. Sounds like a good trade off to me. The mash is triple butted T6 so alu doesn't get much better.
All this shit about welds...change the (house music) record dude...my welds are smooth like butter...and check a few pages back...I think I built your dream bike.
YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE!
I really couldn't give two shites about the welds. It's the mugs that have been 'sold' into the whole MASH thing and part with £800 for a very ordinary frame which should be no more than £300 tops. Would you spend that much if it had TREK or BOARDMAN written on it?

Still £400 too much

Bianchi Pista Al... Nah....just joshing....
Silgey Barspin, Dolan Pre Cursa, Cinelli Vigorelli and most importantly That hideous Spicer Frame FTW on uggliness
EDIT: The leader is fucking ugly too.

• #314
I though the cinelli mash frame look pretty nice, frankly it's Eva Green in comparison to your common garden Britney Spear, aka Leader.
-
• #315
Eva Green would be a better ride though AND she wouldn't cost £700

Theory has to be put in to practise matey.agree 100%. was just talking about trade offs...thats all. and it still seems that on average an alu frame is siginificantly lighter than steel

WEIGHT: 3.31lbs
From here http://www.wrenchscience.com/road/frames/Cinelli/MASH
3.31lb = 1501.39g
There is a time in every ones life when they really should say no to weed.
couldn't agree more given the evidence. spectacular fail and guilty as charged.
all i can say is overall my mash is way lighter than my steel bike. also that after 30 miles my nutsack/stinky bridge can tell a huge difference steel and aluminium and not in a good way, which goes against the burrows theory.

Using the same saddle on both bikes?
-
• #319
There are ridiculous attitudes to welds/welding on this forum.
-
• #320
There's a lot of talk of them for sure!
This forum does come out with some strange obsessions, welds, 531, deep v rims, "will it barspin" etc.. ffs
-
• #321
....Apple pies, bike polo, radial lacing, coffee, brooks saddles, black nipples etc, etc...
-
• #322
Talk of them from people who've probably never even seen a welder in action, never mind done it themselves.
You've gotta love an internet expert.

Using the same saddle on both bikes?
Fizik arione on one and antares on the other. No great diff. Both lovely saddles.

Was worried for a sec I'd never get your 2c. Good to see an instant return to form. U didn't disappoint!

You'll be needing this mate
Never mind the comparative weight of various metals, are people up there seriously suggesting they bought one of these for it's ride qualities?
