Well, he does have a point, but it's entirely possible to feel a minor difference, for instance, the flex on the BB shell, the 'slow' handling of a relaxed geo frame, the difference between a steel and alu frame etc.
what's I think is a little hard to tell the difference are thing like the tubing of the frame (631 vs. 853).

Yes flex and handling are noticeable, what he is saying is the material differences are not.
Could be that people want to find differences! -
• #279
In your opinion you mean.
Haha obviously?? I am being silly. I like my bike because it's my bike. I can't afford a Cinelli and they don't make them in my size.

That one is quite decent

bit here about the benny gold frame http://www.highsnobiety.com/news/2010/01/28/mash-x-cinelli-bike-frame-2010-colorway/#comments

Are the welds at the head tube actually as cheap and shitty as they look in this pic?
-
• #285
that's a fair point, look fairly similar to Leader welds.

Are the welds at the head tube actually as cheap and shitty as they look in this pic?
Yep
-
• #287
Didn't know you'd been on one?
-
• #288
I don't need to ride one to see they have wank welds
Overpriced shite

• #289
Compelling.
How does your langsta™ ride?

Wahey! Pistys back! Old news but still wanted to acknowledge it. This and other threads have missed your jovial ways.
Shame you're still talking shit about alu welds tho. Didn't u learn anything on your sabbatical?
Moaning about alu welds is like moaning that chocolate makes for a shit teapot. Yep its tricky to weld but hey, its a third of the weight of steel. Sounds like a good trade off to me. The mash is triple butted T6 so alu doesn't get much better.
All this shit about welds...change the (house music) record dude...my welds are smooth like butter...and check a few pages back...I think I built your dream bike.
YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE!

....Didn't u learn anything.....
Yep its tricky to weld but hey, its a third of the weight of steel.
Not bad, seeing that an average steel frame is around 2000g you are saying that an alu frame will be 650g.
Let us know where you get them please.

• #292
density of steel = 7.8g/cm3 / density of steel = 2.7g/cm3
you're right...instead of saying 3 times lighter i should have said 2.88 recurring times lighter
i take it back
-
• #293
density of steel = 7.8g/cm3 / density of steel = 2.7g/cm3
you're right...instead if saying 3 times lighter i should have said 2.88 recurring times lighter
i take it back
So you still think an average alu frame is 650g then?
-
• #294
It may be a third less dense (not lighter), but there is frequently more metal on a alu frame, so it never works out that way.

Comparison fail.

Mash f+f 54cm is 560g
Can't say I know where you're going with this
-
• #297
Comparison fail.
hah! Thanks - hadn't noticed. Bit caned -
• #298
lol, the fork **alone **weighs 560g
You must have never ridden the thing to not have realised this.

It may be a third less dense (not lighter).

WEIGHT: 3.31lbs
From here http://www.wrenchscience.com/road/frames/Cinelli/MASH
3.31lb = 1501.39g
There is a time in every ones life when they really should say no to weed.
while others claim the human body cannot actually feel the minor differences in frame materials and any that are there are masked by the tyres, seat, bar tape etc,.
Apparently no technical tests can pick up any noticeable differences so why would a human be able to?
When I say others I mean Mike Burrows but I feel he has a point. I think forks make a difference because they actually move/bend but a frame made up of triangles and welded/joined very securely is not going to move anywhere is it?
