  • fuck off were you - don't try and harness your hopes to someone elses sentiments in a transparantly poor attempt to appear more magnanimous - you started this shit storm by spouting the worst sort of police-state apologist shite that bore no hint of irony, either stand by what you said or delete it.

    police-state apologist shite?
I was trying to say at best there were TWO sides to the story and only ONE seemed to be discussed and published. At worst the protesters or at-least a lot of them were clearly breaking the law.
The police are there to uphold the law no... or am I missing something? Same old argument as usual. Bash police when they try to uphold some law you don't like, urgently call on them to defend you when someone's broken a law that affects you.

    Not that simple is it

  • The protest wasn't ever going to achieve a thing

It achieved a fair bit I reckon. It has spread like wildfire online, the video has gone viral, it's what a lot of people talk about. Isn't that achieving something?

And if we consider protests as 'non achieving events', what powers do we as citizens have left?

  • The police are there to uphold the law no... or am I missing something?

Yes you are missing the fact that the police *MUST* uphold the law according to the guidelines that they are given by their superiors. In this case to *ONLY USE PEPPER SPRAY DEFENSIVELY*.

    Not that simple is it

    Yes, it is that simple.

but that's not what you said is it? your OP had nothing to do with pointing out 'two sides to the story' in fact if you go back and read your OP, you are blatantly cheering on the questionable actions of the police, even going so far as saying you'd like to do it yourself.

yes, it pretty much is that simple.

oh, and don't for a fucking moment presume what i like or don't like.

Sorry, but I don't see the results of the widespread Banking reforms or transparent investigations in to top echelon bankers that the Occupy "movement" achieved. If everyone was truly concerned/angered and looking for change, the attitude that we're not going to be fisted by our governments any-more would go viral and 10's of thousands of people would take to the streets in each city, not just tune in to 10's of thousands of pointless circular discussions like this.

  • ^ you are nic ferrari aicmfp.

  • How exactly does one use pepper spray defensively?

  • Like a skunk, one presumes

  • it has been well publicised that this particular police department's guidelines state that pepper spray should only be deployed in defensive situations

    Defensive.
    Not indefensible.

The only reason why this discussion could even remotely be described as circular is because you keep changing your viewpoint and bringing things into the conversation that we were not discussing in the first place and realistically have no bearing on what your first post was about. It really is open and shut and you just keep digging a bigger hole for yourself please buddy admit you were wrong, so that we can all move on. FFS I'm meant to be at work ;)

You've not really grasped this one properly have you...?

What possibly makes you think I specifically meant you? Bit of an over the top reaction.. Translation:-

    better?

  • Sorry, did I stumble into the Fail thread?

  • Hinata has made a concerted effort to "make it so" this afternoon.

  • Actually no, 300 Spartan warriors and their king were killed, this meant that the council could approve the war between Sparta and the Persian Empire and that the Persian advance into Spartan territory was fatally halted. If you are going to make know it all comments about classical epic literature at least read it first.

Erm ... the historical narrative about the Persian wars does not stem from epic literature at all. The main source is Herodotus, and then Thucydides:

  • Point-scoring on on-line forums using other people's throwaway remarks that they didn't mean in this way is great.
