No, Crumb is the new Max.

I hesitated to say it, as I don't know him so it's a bit creepy.

By the way, who on here actually read any Classic Greek drama or epic?

They're xero-like anyway. Crumb pays for his beer, though

I've read translations of both the Iliad and Homer's Odyssey.

I've read translations of both the Iliad and Homer's Odyssey.
I've read bits of both in the original, but for the most part philosophy. My Ancient Greek knowledge needs major brushing up, as I've forgotten loads.

I read a lot, but not in original.
Greek classic and hellenistic tragedies and comedies mainly Aeschylos, Aristophanes and Meander (for History of Drama). "Illiad" and both "Antigone" and "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles in the high school. "Odyssey" at uni for History of Literature. Don't remember much. Erased by acid. Not sure why I read Theatre for three years. Should've done business studies or become a designer. -

I read Homer's Odyssey a few summers ago. I liked it, very different style of storytelling. Few long paragraphs of descriptions, every page moves the narrative forward. Not like fucking Lord of the Rings, the slowest paced, most tiresome book I've ever stopped reading halfway through (of which there are not many).

Did you read The Hobbit first, Jess?

Elves, what a shower of smug bastards they are. And the dwarfs, bunch of wife beaters given half a chance. Not to mention those kings and their noblesse oblige and that bloody horse that can ride for days and days with that cantankerous old geezer on top. Sam and his fawning and groveling. Pffft.

Talking trees!
I actually quite like it but you do need to skim. -

Yeah The Hobbit was good, I liked it, but the pages and pages of descriptions in the LOTR books just made it drag on so horribly. I gave up halfway through the second book I think, during one of the epic battles.
Then again I was only 12 at the time, maybe if I re-read them now I'd be able to enjoy them more.

Went to the shop to buy a packet of hobnobs. Wasn't sure if it was cold or really cold so I took a jumper and had it slung over my shoulder. Was at the till with packet of hobnobs in one hand, reached out to collect change (about 3 pounds 50 in tiny coins) and my jumper slipped off my shoulder. With my cat like reflexes I reached my empty hand up to catch it, not caring a damn for the 30 small coins I sent from the cashiers hand in every direction available. I didn't bother collecting it.
But it's OK. I've got hobobs.
Except of course I can't open the packet. With a bit of force I'm nearly there - then my hand slips - the top three hobnobs explode like a hand-grenade, sending shards of oaty shrapnel across the room and coating my face and lap with a fine dust.
