when you say 'justified', do you mean to say that a reasonable response to sitting in someone's way is pepper spray to the face?
Sure, that's how I get into the ASL most days.

Well well... the truth is out scumbag students.
Seems like the police were totally just in their actions after all.
Bullshit. Children are taught at a very young age that "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." There was enough police officers there to move the students without resorting to violence or the use of pepper spray, which is unpleasant and pretty dangerous stuff if someone has an underlying heart condition (a distinct possibility even given how young the individuals targeted were). I have actually been on the receiving end of pepper spray and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Also lets not forget that it has been well publicised that this particular police department's guidelines state that pepper spray should only be deployed in defensive situations, not to bully a bunch of students into doing what you want them to do.
The constant chanting and moronic and aggressive stance they took against the police would have seen me pepper spray as many as I could see within about 5 minutes...
How the police kept their cool for so long is beyond me.Good thing you are not a police officer then really isn't it? BTW the police are paid to keep their cool and not rise to provocation making this a spectacularly epic fail still.

Anyone know the phrases "Tongue-in-cheek" or "Pinch of salt"?
Just pointing out that there was/is another side to a story that has ONLY been told from a very edited, biased point of view.
Several times they were told that they were breaking numerous laws by illegally camping and protesting on that land - several students are arrested for obstructing the police while they removed the tents. Then the idiotic chanting starts to release the legally arrested people, and then the students are stupid enough to encircle ARMED police.
The protest wasn't ever going to achieve a thing, threatening the police wasn't going to do anything positive. There was NO chance they would release the protesters once arrested but the students belligerently stood their ground to change what?.. the policemens minds? They lawfully arrested people obstructing them [peacefully] doing what was set out by federal laws, and after further obstructions and 1/2 a dozen warnings, they had very little other choice of what to do.
Nobody in the group of protesters was willing to listen to any sort of reasoning, the police were very calm throughout, they gave all sorts of warnings, yet the students carried on, keeping the police trapped.I will say though - pepper spray was a bit over the top. They should have used a big fuck-off water cannon.

why stand your ground?
tell that to the 300 spartans, or everyone in gondor
all of these protests were brought about by hollywood, theyre to blamethe police were very calm throughout

Air strike?
Could have sprayed them with petrol. Then calmly walked towards them with a candle. Maybe?
Those nasty brain eating worms used in 'The wrath of Khan', would have been effective. Not sure they're real though.
See they had loads of choices.

the use of pepper spray aside, we were led to believe that the students were just passively sitting there when in fact they had encircled the police. Spin, propaganda, the twisting of the truth is odious whether it comes from the state or from protesters.
To be honest i doubt many people even know what the original protest was about, the pepper spray incident and following hysteria created and perpetuated a simplistic, useless 'us and them' mentality that detracts from any real issues. To be honest some of the memes, making the cop into a mass murderer or whatever, were sickening and childish now we know the real situation.
I'm not on either side, by the way, and wont be dragged into an argument on this ;)

Hehe, no but really - the Spartans and almost all of Gondor was wiped out. The Occupy protesters would have probably just died of old age if they'd been permitted to carry on.
Bit of a disparity between losing life & limbs for you country/city, and Illegally "protesting" ;) -

Actually no, 300 Spartan warriors and their king were killed, this meant that the council could approve the war between Sparta and the Persian Empire and that the Persian advance into Spartan territory was fatally halted. If you are going to make know it all comments about classical epic literature at least read it first.
