Women: What's your favorite saddle?

  • I switched to the Charge Stool on my plug on saturday and man (or woman!) alive is a joy! Really, really comfortable - even over short distances like my commute for some reason the stock saddle had started to make certain bits of me unhappy if I wasn't wearing padded shorts but the Stool has fixed all that. The position needs a bit of tweaking but it gets a firm two thumbs up from me!

    Bargain price from wiggle too!

  • yay! I do so love it. Although today for the first time ever I had some serious pains going on... am gonna hope that it's because I've had it for so long and ridden it so much that it just needs replacing cos I've never had that problem before!

  • Forgot about your advice re: padded shorts and the stool and went for a ride after work to Box Hill...things were a little tender by the end of the ride : /

Felt a bit better after a bit of a sit down and sitting further back on the saddle but didn't wear the shorts this am.

  • I've just replaced mine and there's defo a difference in suppleness between the one I've used for a year and the new one which I think was part of the problem (^^) but I also did discover that my seat was about 1cm too high which I just can't understand how I've managed. But it's now been lowered and saddle replaced and the pains seem to have gone but will find out this weekend when I can get some more miles in...

  • Right then by the end of the Essex Afterworkers/MNRC my bits with the stool and no padding were not happy.

Will try tweaking the saddle but I fear this could be a very short lived romance for me and the Stool : (

  • Usually are, some saddle feel comfortable straight out of the box, but after a good 10 miles, it start to get uncomfortable.

it can take quite a bit of time finding the idea saddle that doesn't inflame your bits, so ask around the forum if they have any saddle that they can lend out, I did the same before resorting to the Fixik Aliante, not perfect (doing a 589km ride tomorrow!!!), but insofar with bibs short I think I'll be fine.

6.00 am Regents Park. Time for bed now, Ed? :)

  • You pair of wallys

    eh?

  • poots if you want to try out my selle italia ladies gel flow which is currently on the surly you're welcome to, won't be using it whilst on holiday. If you can drag yourself to Souths next monday I can bring with.

  • Have adjusted the saddle and tipped it forwards a bit and it feels way better than it did, at least on my commute, which is just shy of 10 miles each way. How do I know if it's going to be any good over a longer distance? I guess just plan a ride that has an escape/train station somewhere en route? Do most people have a different saddle if they are doing longer distance rides?

And ta! For offer clefty...have got plans for Monday eve though...

  • Has anyone got a Brooks Flyer S (womens)? I've always ridden a normal B17. Just got the Flyer for my tourer and it's TINY, literally feels like a child's saddle. Quite worried about riding it on the DD!

  • My bits definitely aren't keen on the stock saddle on my Trek so have bought a Selle Italia Ladies' Gelflow being sold on anther forum (shock) so fingers crossed that will suit better. My commute is only 7 miles each way so I'll cope until it gets here but can't imagine going a heck of a lot further on the current one.

    ....help!

  • Are you trying to get it for the ride?

I can't help you (or other) I'm afraid, saddle are quite a personal choice, what work for other may not work for someone else.

But having said that, give the SLK a try, the side flex nicely.

I wouldnt want to ride a new saddle for DD, god no. Just trying to find a better saddle than the ones I have at present which are for men.

  • I love the SLK, I've just bought an identical saddle for the new build. I think the sides flex independently might help it be more comfortable. I haven't tried the non-SLK version though.

If they still did them in white, I'd have one for the Pinarello as well.

Yes please! Would it look daft on a Steamroller?

  • Perhaps the only thing on the bicycle you shouldn't worry about how it look.

  • Oh, Ed. Wasn't it you just moaning about accidentally buying a brown headset instead of a black one?

Alex, no it won't look daft. It's actually quite an elegant saddle. Sorry, but you'll have to come south, I can't ever seem to make it west these days.

  • Arione Donna 00

  • yes please if you're offering Dov, I'll have one for each bike!

I'm more worried my bike will look too inelegant :) I can do South. I stay with my mother in Camberwell regularly. Or I just go ahead and buy one....
