^ I've had mine since launch day (black 32Gb) and it's just been kept in my pocket without a case. No damage yet; scuffs or scratches.

Good to know, thanks. No wear on the chamfered edges at all?
http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/5989/apple-iphone-5-phone-review
Ditching the glass back and reducing the thickness of the glass panel on the front has affected the design of the metal band around the edge of the iPhone. It is now chamfered and while that looks pretty, we've already noticed that on the black model the edge has started to wear, revealing the shiny silver aluminium metal underneath the "slate" coloured coating and, indeed, we've witnessed it on two separate models, ruling out a fluke manufacturing error.
These small scuffs will catch the light and make the phone look visibly worn. We suspect that it won't be as noticeable on the white model because the metal edging is silver, so that's worth bearing in mind when you come to order your colour choice.

Android is driving me nuts.
so why are you insisting on nexus 7 then? :P

Nothing yet although it does look a little vulnerable.
To be honest though, it's so much better than my 4 that I wouldn't really mind if it scratched easily, anyway.

am curious what apps people think need the extra oomph
my 3gs is still perfectly capable for most apps. ok it's not retina but that's not the end of the world.

I have had the the black iPhone 5 since launch day. Although it has been kept in a case it does now have a tiny scratch on the metal band. The shiny silver does show through and it definitely makes the scratch much more noticeable.

It's more apparent when you tried out a newer model.
Thought my 4 felt fine, till I tried my friend's 4S and realised how slow and laggy my 4 is.

It's the difference between having a 5 year old computer and a brand new quad core one and trying to run Windows 8 / OS X ML. Both will do it but the new one will make the experience that much nicer...

I only just upgraded from my 2007 macbook (although i also replaced the battery so i can keep using it) so that probably explains everything. hahaha

I actually do really like Android these days. The Nexus 7 is a nice toy, especially for £150. Sure, I'd prefer an iPad but the Nexus 7 was cheap enough to justify. I mainly use it to stream music wirelessly to surf the web in the evenings, but not for much more than that. It a few minor glitches from time to time but it's more than tolerable as a device of leisure.
However, the phone gets much more usage and all of which tends to be urgent. All the functions of a phone need to be reliable and work exactly when needed. Interacting with Android on a regular basis just pisses me off more often than not.
Plus, the main reason I've put up with with this Android phone for so long (about 2 months – I surprised myself) is because I much prefer the stock UI to that of iOS. I'm loving the way the look and feel of Android is progressing, they're putting so much effort into UI/UX and it's refreshing to use something that isn't smothered in fake leather, gloss and stitches – I really disliked the way iOS was heading. Skeuomorphism can seriously >>>>>. However, now that Jonny Ive is leading human interface design at Apple I think we can expect to see iOS become as nice as the hardware it's wrapped in. Which I'm very excited about, both as a designer and a user of these devices.

Serious Q
I am on iPhone 4, happy with it and do not feel the need to upgrade the phone. So taking the money I would have spent upgrading, do I drop £270 on the iPad mini wifi only and have it tethered to the iPhone 4?
Will that be me sorted for the forseable or should I go full sized iPad4 instead? -

I sold mine for £250 the other day...
I'm pretty sure I gave you £200 for it, not £250?

Nah... I had a 4 and the missus has a 4S.
The 5 is noticeably lighter, thiner and higher quality. It's also twice as fast as the 4S (about 4x faster than the 4).
I had to use her 4S yesterday and it was an awful experience in comparison, IMO.
Fair enough. Claira is probably getting a 5 today so I'll have a play. However as I'm now out of contract it's much cheaper, and an new phone is low on the list of things to buy (quite tempted by the new Mac Mini).

Will that be me sorted for the forseable or should I go full sized iPad4 instead? Why not wait for the ipad mini with 4g? That whole tethering thing seems like a ball ache. Drains battery and you have to faff with two devices. Monthly plan on 3 is only 7.50 anyway

True that; but forstall sure had impact, I am fine with a little bit of Skeuomorphism but Find a Friend app can >>>>>>>>>>
Android is exciting because of the reasons you stated above plus their design guidelines are way better than that of apple's. Anything with default/vanilla version post 4.0 is great. The most attractive bit of Android is price, especially the nexus range. When iPad mini was announced at £269 my first reaction was TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY NINE POUNDS!!! WTF! I dont mind more handicaps but get that price down.
Nexus 7 is what I call 'sweet-spot' of any tech where price and performance (purpose maybe) is just perfect. Nexus 10 is NOT even with its sharper than retina display NFC and what not. Pricing is the new innovation ; ) (mind you I am from India where you can get an android phone for £60)
And my reason for not getting the nexus 7 is simple, I cannot justify it ; ) plus I can buy bike stuff of that value. Not that I need any of the above

I got the mid level new Mac Mini last week. Stuck a 256Gb SSD and 16Gb of ram in it... soooo fast.
It's now encoding HD video at around 110 fps.

I really like using a full sized iPad for browsing and watching video's etc - I don't think I could comfortably watch films/tv shows on anything smaller tbh.. not without straining my eyes.

Bare lust for this Hermes iPad case

I'd stick with the full-bodied iPad, can't see the point in the smaller one, and like me, save money and stick with the wi-fi only, then tether to phone in emergencies (or just use phone)

why the new mac? why not the current (still on sale at stores) mac and upgrade RAM and SSD? Would be cheaper ..

You can get the stude discount without being a student I think, some guy worked out a way of fudging the URLs of the apple store

That one didn't work for me, but 1 number different did (that I've since removed - google it)
How are everybodys iPhone 5s holding up cosmetically? I've read all the hype about how the black ones can scratch up fairly easily but I'd like to know how bad it really is after real world use of the phone.
I'm tempted to drop £600 just to get a reliable phone back in my life, Android is driving me nuts.
