Well I've got a macbook and a pc but feel sometimes I would rather reach for the iPad over using a laptop. Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself I need one or I could do with a cheaper one, ala; http://www.ebuyer.com/product/253158

The main reason for me getting one would be because It's easy to use like a phone for browsing the internet only bigger, but saying that would I be better off going for a much cheaper tablet if that's all I want?
I though the same, especially with the Samsung Galaxy Tab which is a perfect size between an iPad and an iPhone;
I tried it, felt pretty good and having Android helped (flash based-website especially).
some people don't recommend it over the Android topic, so need to keep looking, shame really as it look quite good and felt comfortable to use.

What about the Archos 101 tablet I mentioned above Ed?

contract is up on my phone soon... thinking of holding out (via a sim only deal?) and getting an iphone5 which is supposed to be out in September. Does that sound feasible?
-
• #1581
I would definitely hold off until September... buying an iPhone 4, now, is a waste of money!

will there be such a big jump from 4-5? the 4 is miles better than a 3 but i wouldn't rush to upgrade to a 5 if it's just a better camera and maybe faster processor as it's fast enough already.
-
• #1583
it's at least worth waiting to see... there's all sorts of rumors flying around.
I went sim only and stumped up for a 4. Best thing I ever did. £5pm contract with unlimited internet.

I reckon Smyth is right, only real advantage is if they put NF technology in the phone. But yeah, wait til sept, and if it's nothing special, get a 4 on the cheap.

Not sure that it will be worth the upgrade if you already have an iPhone 4 but buying a new one now which will be effectively obsolete in 3 months is a bit silly. It's a lot of money.

I'm on a 3gs at the moment so it's a no brainer for me

Yup... i would cancel the contract (or just keep it for the next couple of months) and then punt for the iPhone 5 in September.

it ends in june/july so I'll get a sim only per month or get an extension something like that
how much would I be looking at getting one sim free? £500?

This is a good indication of price: http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTAyNTQzMjI
Apple tend to bump the specs and keep the price the same as the old models.

Who's your contract with? Does that include any minutes or texts?

Didn't know you could convert on vlc?
Use vlc to watch. No need to convert.

600 minutes, 500 texts, ul internet. It's after renewing a previous contract - sim only. (with tmobile)
Just tried to get a second sim for the missus on the same contract, but they said they couldn't offer me that contract, I'd have to get one for £15 pm to get the same thing.
Shame.

Sorry I imagine this has been covered but 30-odd pages is a bit too much to trawl through.
Does a cycling gps mapping app exist that you can upload existing routes to (gpx files or whatever)?
Could be the clincher on an iphone purchase. -
• #1598
i use everytrail pro. i just copy a gpx from a website with the route (from bikely/garmin etc) then upload to my everytrail page then add it as a favourite on the phone, you can even load the map tiles at home on wifi so they are there on the phone when you have no 3g signal. i just use it as a failsafe so i can see if i have gone off route and how to get back.
will cane the battery on a 3g but isn't that bad on a 4. i tried runkeeper on the 3 but it was worse on the battery, not tried it on the 4. -
• #1599
I use endomondo, but at the minute, the app can't (I don't think) keep track of favourite routes. May be wrong though. Might have a look at everytrail though :D

Cheers, will investigate further...
Phone- small enough to type with both thumbs, the ipad needs holding in one hand and pecking at the keyboard with the other hand.
I don't have the ipad anymore, but would like one I have to say- using an original Asus Eee (7" one) and wishing the screen was bigger
