For those bestowed with harmful levels of boutique hip adorn your iphone 4 with a Leica sticker to convince other bourgeoisie of your deity and seperate you from the ocean of vile bottom feeding scum...

I've never seen one "in the wild" just a workmate's. People don't actually do that do they?
Ooooh yes they do, my favourite example was somebody using theirs on the northern line to read the Metro.
I'm sure an ipad is fun to play with, but so is my chap and I would expect to be called a wanker playing with either in public.

Surely carrying an IPad around and actually using it in public just screams "I am a complete helmet"?

Personally I'd like one but can't justify spending £600 on a toy.
If you think it's a toy, then you definitely don't need it.
Unfortunately it doesn't do much without some proper apps.
What you need is for example Atomic browser to replace Safari, because it has tabs. -

Get over yourselves people! :-) It's just a tablet - it's supposed to be portable, it was made to carry around, it's perfect for commuting and travelling.

want. The ONLY reason I would want an IPad is that ^ pretty much - but then I do have the hardware version of the ESX...so it would be overkill really
It's insane that I used to buy stuff like that for £400 or so, and now you can buy the iPad version for a fiver.

People will always think other people are cocks for riding certain bikes, having iPhones/iPads, driving certain cars, wearing certain clothes, etc etc etc etc - but this is their problem not yours, they will get over it eventually.
All it says is that these people (the ones who think having a certain phone, iPad, laptop or whatever makes you look like a helmet) are overly concerned about how they come accross to the public.

rad thanks for giving me an excuse for getting one
Air Display (over Wi-Fi) is a little slow, video is choppy, but it's good for palettes and that kind of thing - and obviously being a touch screen means you can shove stuff like Logics mixer onto that screen and use it as a controller, or even shove your Photoshop file onto that screen and draw/paint with your fingers.

I am not sure I have ever bought anything as useful as an iPad (and I have bought a load of crap over the years) I only got it as a showreel for one particular meeting, but I am amazed at how much stuff I have ended up doing with it.

^^ha! annoying, isntit?
Apple launch a product and make it sound like a total revolution, then it turns out that, while at first it just looked like a giant iphone (where is that pic of simon pegg?), unwieldy and a bit stupid, it's actually got a use for quite a lot of people.
I think i'd need more music programs released for it before I could justify getting one - right now I might as well spend £400 on some hardware rather than £605 on an ipad and a cool soft synth.

People keep quoting £605, I only paid £429.
What I like is that all the applications, music stuff, controllers, games, soft synths . . . . and whatever . . . are just 3 or 4 quid, maybe a fiver or often free.

I like/use these (all HD):
Penultimate (sketchbook - good for kids, good for quick notes, drafts etc.) + stylus = Star Trek
SpeedtestX HD - my T-Mobile 3G connection is faster than my home network from BT. I've switched to SKY today. Bye bye!
Twitepad One - Twitter client, so I can follow Stephen Fry, Lucifer and LFGSS
GoodReader - the best for PDFs and other docs from online servers, cloud things, Google Docs etc.
Dropbox - on my phones, iPad, desktops, laptops. When away on holidays, stored all paperwork on their server (bookings, insurances, breakdown covers, copies of driving licence, MOT, passports)
6.** Money** - can't work it out. Can't be bothered. That's why I'm broke again. Good little app to make up budgets.
USB Disk - just like an external disk - sync through iTunes. Move stuff to the iPad.
Camera 4 iPad - use Iphone as an external camera, capture via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
AcuWeather - weather app. When it rains... Well, I don't do rain.
Coverter - converts. Paid, but converts all.
Currency - free one
Discover - I do like to read encyclopaedias, me. This one is great for random browsing of Wikipedia.
BBC News - proper BBC news for iPad.
SkyGrid - loadsa news
**Wikihood **- like AroundMe, but for iPad and insead of local businesses has more trivia based Wikipedia entries.
Brothers in Arms - free WWII 3d action game. Like that one on Xbox360, but looks so bad like it's on Game Cube.
Foto News - news. In photos.
**PS Express **- Photoshop for idiots...
Kindle - because their books are cheaper than iTunes.
LondonHD / LondonTC - feed from traffic cameras in London!
when I was in L.A in a coffee shop, out of the 15 people working on laptops, 11 were working on macs, apples have gone from being plucky underdogs, used by people who liked the OS and the ease of use, and the fact that they could be a little eccentric and different just by using a computer that wasnt a PC, through the success of the ipod and the iphone to a ubiquitous electronic product whose appeal now encompasses, a whole new slew of tribes, most of which are thought of as being cunts.
I've used macs and pc's most of my working life, and I'll never pay money for a pc, just can't do it, (though I may have to get a small netbook for writing the novel in south east asia) know they are cheaper, more adaptable, but they just are such hard work to figure out most of the time.
In so saying saw the ipad and it is a luscious piece of kit, but I just bought a new macbook so can't afford it, and there is a bit too much overlap with a laptop in the home.
