  • booked in for a cut 'n colour this saturday at 'Lorra Lacqa' - Liverpool's finest salon

  • Perfection.

  • we're worth it too snoops!

  • holy shit, rob said something useful.

  • Twice now, I'm making a habit of it.

  • its a great habit, keep it up i'm very proud of you. :)

  • Forgive my pignorance, but is a 29er the same thing as 700c?

  • Yes.

  • But wider.

  • My rear wheel was built with DT Competition 2.0-1.8-2.0 a year ago, but with alloy nipples. The corrosion has weakened the nipples making them almost sacrificial. I've been replacing them with brass one by one and this week I had my first spoke break, on a brass nipple.
    .

Alloy nipples don't work in this country, maybe they are OK on a race bike, or indoor track bike, or if you live in the desert. But in the UK for anything other than serious business they are a PITA unless you GT85 them every month without fail, and more often in winter.
Used to earn quite a bit of workshop money though rebuilding wheels that come on the higher end specialized bikes as they all use alloy nipples, and often used for commuting in scotland, in winter, with no maintenance = lots of nice relaxed £££ wheel builds for me on the sofa :)

  • Hi guys, I'm searching for a rear hub, 36H, for 135mm spacing, affordable, for a nice new wheel - which was supposed to be an easy task, but these bits are hardly available - or I don't search for them at the right spots... can you help me please?

  • Threaded, cassette, short-cassette, BMX microcassette???

  • Sorry, no cassettes. Polo rear wheel - single speed, maybe flip flop

  • I recommend this one: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/135mm_fixed_hubs/echo_tr_rear/c21p10708.html
Cartridge bearings, nice thick flanges, light as hell, but 32H. You'll want to replace the allen bolts eventually though.

They might have some 36H hubs, and they have "sort by weight" as a list option :-) http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/135mm_fixed_hubs/c21.html

  • If you want something cheaper, On-One sell 135mm flip-flop hubs:

    http://www.on-one.co.uk/c/q/wheels_hubs_and_rims/hubs

edit: but I can't find the 135mm spaced options. I know they make them because I have one in the bike locked outside...

  • DMR Revolvers are good and strong, they won't break the bank and they come in 32 and 36 hole

    Single thread and disc though

  • Buy a cheap system x hub and a bunch of washers?

  • Does that work properly? chainline? Thanx guys, by the way!

  • Buy a cheap novatec hub with On-One branding

    ftfy.

  • The great thing about washers is you have even more control of the chalk line ;)

  • Do DMR not do a single speed/disc hub? Swear I've seen one with a short cassette body for just one or two cogs & lockring, about £45 with decent bearings (mine have lasted 7 years of serious business abuse on MTB) and reasonable quality freehub (non servicable, just replace every 3-4 years, they only cost about £12).

    ^ As mentioned...

  • These: http://www.petracycles.co.uk/dmr-bikes-single-speed-freewheel-hub-9mm-36h-red-p-39644.html
I can use a disc hub on a wheel without a disc as well, right? Just to make sure...

Besides: you know any sources for Surly hubs online?

  • You can, I'd also recommend the revolvers, mine have been great on my polo bike, Oz will be getting my spare pair at the weekend.
