  • Greeks are ace! Greek food FTW!

...except dolmades. They are a fucking abomination.

  • I was once interrogated by an Australian policeman for eating dolmades in Hoxton Square. I can only assume that this prejudice against stuffed vine leaves is an attitude you lot all share.

PS Have you tried Metaxa? Amazing stuff.

Ooooh no. I LOVE dolmades. Dibs on yours.

You can have my sticky, nutty, sweet things. Baklavas - that's it. Bleugh.

  • No... whats Metaxa? Theres a great greek restaurant behind H Square actually... called the something greek? Cant remember.

RE: Dolmades, I'd only stuff rice into a leaf if I'd run out of real food.

  • Villa-ru! Baklava is the key to happiness!

  • Liquid golden happiness, 5 stars:

  • How do you drink that then? Is it shots? Im all up for trying Metaxa!

Vanilla milkshake + large shot of metaxa. Yum.

  • Have it in a big glass like whisky.

Though that milkshake idea is genius, droogs.

  • Balki,

It's The Real Greek. There is another branch on St John Street.

It always has rave reviews but I cannot say that I have been too impressed.

What's the difference between Greek and Turkish food? For Turkinsh try either Gallipoli in Upper Street or Haz in the City. Both excellent.

If you met me, you would hate me. I personify every stereotype that you detest and fear.

For your sake, let us hope that we never meet.

Clive and let clive, I say.

  • Oliver, for a man named after a musical, you are certainly waxing lyrical today.

  • Good tips Clive. I really like turkish food too. Will check out Gallipoli.

I really like the 2 person platter thing at Mangal on Kingsland road. Apparently so do these chaps who frequent the place. I think they have been there every time I've walked past.

You can have some more if you want.

  • Oliver - those are making me miserables.

  • PM is the only person on my ignore list, but i got advised at the weekend to remove him from it, and check out this thread.
i have just wasted half an hour of my life reading through all this shit.
    now where's that ignore button.......

  • I wouldnt worry... I think this thread is about musicals now.

gallipoli has lost the plot recently i think. they (all three of them) used to be really good value but these days you're looking at a tenner for a main so it's not so much cheap eats anymore. since they opened the fourth one on upper street they seem to be chock full of goggle-eyed tourists every night too. last time i went to one (the newest *cafe *gallipoli) we had to send back a dish twice. i'm not sure what the veggie special was meant to be like but a pile of cold, limp and suspiciously tinned-looking grean beans and baby carrots does not pass as edible as far as i'm concerned. by the time the second replacement had arrived i'd long since finished my dinner and we just wanted to leave. service was faultessly lovely and very apologetic but i can't help but feel they've lost a lot of the charm that made them so good in the first place.

no it's not. it's about greek food.

what was it about originally again?

    oh yeah, eugenics.

  • Oliver, for a man named after a musical, you are certainly waxing lyrical today.

I thought he was named after the shaving company...

  • Speaking of shaving/turkish things... £7 at Golden Scissors on Dalston is a great way to killl some time on a weekend. Wet shave FTW!

Soory dooks... back to greek food.

  • I wouldnt worry... I think this thread is about musicals now.
