  • First impressions are good, only read a little bit so far but it seems decent. I was worried it might not be much more than rehashed press releases / the shit posted on Hypebeast. Also enough spot colours and banging print processes in there to help you feel better about spanking so much ££ on it.

Not sure it’ll work in Aus but “NEW20” gives 20% off from Phaidon.

  • Nice! Thanks for that. Code works, £25 for shipping mind.

  • Sweet code, thanks. £3 shipping. :)

  • Can anyone ID the trainers this guy's wearing?

  • Yeah Nicola has them. Nike Air Span II

  • Bam, that was quick!

    Thanks Caz.

  • Thanks for code @moog

  • This thread's gone quiet just as I need some new trainers.

I've bought some Nike Tailwind 79 in the burgundy colour but I'm just not in love with them. They're like a slightly more boring version of the pair they're replacing, which I loved:

I've also got some Nike Air Span II arriving tomorrow which I got cheap off ebay but I'm not sure they're going to fit (half a size down from normal) and they look a bit chunky.

What else is good for a boring dad? Something classic-looking but not NB. Not white or black but dark grey is good.

  • What else is good for a boring dad?

I've found Nike SB Zoom and Blazer to be rather good.
Nice fit, comfortable and decent colours.

  • Air Force Gore Tex?

  • Boring Dad gotta be Adidas Gazelle innit?

  • plus suede Samba for when you’re on the pull at Pets at Home

  • suede Samba

Oooh. 2009 I had a pair of Consortium corduroy Samba, how you like them apples?

  • Been there, done that (though never pulled).

  • Apropos of nothing, I got a pair of these Watership Down-esque hi-tops back in 2010:

I still wear them today, because I'm a boring Dad and I don't buy clothes.

  • Never actually had Gazelles. Samba, Spezial, and Beckenbauer Allround - and the latter two I'd definitely get again.

  • I've got some chunky Scotchgard Vans which play a similar wintry role.

I'm seeing these new trainers as my pushchair in a park in spring shoes.

  • Pegasus 89 are good.
    Internationalist, MD.
They fit the pattern like your tailwind.

  • Good shout. I slightly prefer the Blazers but I think a lot of the other SBs look good too.

  • Internationalist my fave old school shape

    Air Vortex a close second

  • After about 30 years of wanting I have finally got around to getting some Adidas Torsions.

  • +1 suede samba for dull dads. I had a Jamaica pair of the island series. Got eaten by foxes, wrote to Adidas to suggest they added a fox deterant, they never responded.

  • Wow. Frith all round.

I'd go Asics MT for the All weather dad.

  • Go full dad or go home

  • heh, wish I had.
As a long-time wearer of Vans, I never got the Gazelle or Samba because they were football-lads-casual and that wasn’t my tribe (still, decades on, it’s great to see the Style 36 boat anchor/skate shoe has become a Boring Dad staple).
