So, realistically Nico tied up the championship at Suzuka, but looking forward to the next season with the reg changes what's the consensus on which teams will start strong?

Wouldn't count Hamilton out yet, a collision or mechanical failure will put Hamilton back in the game!
I'd probably be putting my money on Red Bull for next year, tempted to put a bet on Verstappen for WDC next year.

Good racing for a change..... Except for Rosberg, who was never troubled. Honda must wish they'd never bothered turning up.

It's not exactly unusual for a Mercedes to be out front by itself maintaining a gap of around 5 seconds to the car behind. Both Lewis and Nico have done it quite a lot over the past few years.
Let's be honest, if you're looking for good racing, you're rarely looking at the Mercedes cars.

That Hulkenberg move on Bottas was tidy... Wonder if the reports of him moving to Renault are true. Yup the management at Honda must feel like falling on their swords after a day like that in front of a home crowd and on their own track...

Lascist.

I think Hulkenberg's remark over the radio was the high point of the race to be honest!
Hopefully Renault can give him a decent car if he goes there next year!

The Renault next year will be no better than this year.

Is the Red Bull/Tag > Renault all down to chassis? Or do they run different engines (other than the branding)
-
• #5761
Are they going to run a 2016 spec car then? ;)
In all seriousness, I do doubt the Renault will jump up the order, especially considering how McL/Honda have been faring. But Hulkenberg is probably about halfway through his time in F1 (assuming he can keep a seat while he's competitive) and is yet to land in a car that can frequently get him on the podium.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him in a Ferrari in 2018.

Physically they're exactly the same engines. They may map it differently. The Red Bull chassis is just that good. The Renault chassis is just that bad (aero wise). Renault have so much work to do to get their car decent.
In 3 weeks I'll be gone and may elaborate more. -

Hulkenberg confirmed moving to Renault... Hope he does well there.

I know the seasons all but over but can anyone recommend a good place to watch F1 central or south east? Me and the GF figure watching with a group of fans and getting pissed might liven things up a bit

Alonso 5th. That's real progress. Either that or he's the best driver on the track... Button in the points as well.
-
• #5766
I also think Alonso got the best result of the day. A really determined drive.

I totally missed the race; I'm in New Mexico and couldn't find an online feed. Anyone know a reliable USA race feed? Thanks all, see you in a year!

Feel a bit sorry for Ricciardo, don't really understand why that had to be a virtual safety car considering how far off track Verstappen was.

This season would have been better if there were double points on offer for the winner of the Abu Dhabi race.

any time a crane is on circuit (i.e in front of barriers) then its a VSC to cover themselves for what happened to Bianchi, where previously it was up to the driver how fast they thought they could get through waved yellow flags (and get away with it) .
got to hope ferrari's 2017 car will be competitive otherwise the team will just implode
Brawn to McLaren anyone?
-
• #5771
Forgot that it was an engine issue that caused it so it's unlikely they could've rolled it back through the gap in the barrier. So I guess the crane was necessary.
-
• #5772
in theory there is a rule that all cars must be able to be placed into neutral which disengages the rear wheels so it can always be rolled back - but i think that may have changed with the new hybrids jiggerypokery......
-
• #5773
There was a mid race interview is MaxV who said he wanged it in neutral when he parked it but it couldn't be pushed. Then there is a neutral switch/ button the marshalls can push, but it didn't work.
Alonso was pleased with the Sainz dingdong -

When Ferrari management aren't fucking up, their mechanics come to the rescue :)
Hopefully the new rules for 2017 will mean Mercedes won't be phoning it in every race (not to diminish the what they've achieved but it just doesn't make great viewing). Expect red bull will probably do well with the new aero rules and hopefully McHonda will be up on power by then as well.
Maybe some of the customer teams will be surprising.

If Honda can change their contract with McLaren, so as to let other teams use their engines, they will increase their development hugely. I think Honda are not so far away from a break through. Red Bull are really looking strong though, despite being underpowered.
Particularly like how he says the media are disrespectful, whilst playing on his phone during interviews. What makes it even worse is that he was using that snap chat dog for fucks sake.
