Wouldn't read too far into anything Benson says.

One for Bodie to enjoy...

I'm wondering where Schumey will end up. Surely some team will want him. He's struggled to get back to his proper racing speed, but he did get on a provisional pole, before an infringement relegated him. So he's proved that he can still do it. But who would want him? He'd intimidate any other normal driver,......but he wouldn't intimidate Kimi.
Hmmmmmmmm.

I'd kind of assumed that he'd end up at somewhere like Sauber, purely because he brings a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to the table, but also a huge amount of potential sponsorship.

The best thing that MSC can do is walk away from driving. His knowledge can be put to use in other ways, however he is sadly passed it as a driver and will only become more of a liability to anyone else on the track with him.
-
• #2907
He's less of a liability than that Grosjean lunatic.
-
• #2908
Pair MSC up with Maldonado. They can terrorise the field together for a whole season.
-
• #2909
That might just work.

Would you walk away if you were getting paid 8 million a year to race F1 cars? I certainly wouldn't!

He made twice that amount at Ferrari and his pension should be fine and dandy.
Take the (bullshit made up job title and position) at Ferrari and be remembered for what you achieved.

For most people the job and the salary would be a dream come true, however, this is the most successful F1 driver ever. Admittedly since his comeback he has been considerably more relaxed and has been more open with the press I just cannot shake the feeling that despite his new more "fun" persona he is hurting that he cannot recreate the form he enjoyed before his retirement and this can only get worse. That cannot be satisfying for someone who is as competitive as him.
If you take Brawn's technical and strategic ability, Mercedes' near bottomless pit of money and add Schumacher as a coach and talent scout for young drivers you have the makings of a scary team that has the potential to dominate the sport for a long time. That is what I would be looking to in his position.

Personally I don't think he really gives a toss about his "legacy", he's got 7 WDCs, been in F1 for 3 decades and is still doing pretty well (when he finishes a race at least). He's competing with people far younger than he is (some of the field today weren't even born when Schumacher first started racing!) and in a very physically demanding sport, he's doing pretty damn well for his age!
Like I said, if I could physically keep up with the rest of the field like he can, i'd be more than happy to stick around racing cars and getting paid quite a nice bunch for it. Sure the money isn't the reason he's doing this, he doesn't need it. But it's a nice little bonus. Also, people asking for him to "move over to give the seat to a younger driver", screw that, drivers should earn their seats.

Exactly this.

Schumacher retiring at the end of this season

Never liked him when he was in his prime, but have warmed to him in his crap period.

I thought, that with not the best car, he did try his arse off. He was ragged, and on the edge, and made some mistakes, but he was getting back to a chance of winning a race. I didn't like him before either, but to see an old-timer mixing it with the young blades, was good TV. Oddly, I'll miss him.

• #2919
I won't. I hope he stays retired this time.

This seems the best course to me. He always seemed more attached to Brawn than he did to Ferrari. Having Hamilton there does make it a touch trickier though. I never felt that Hamilton and Schumacher got along too well.

In his prime he was a genius.

I completely agree with you.

He should be involved with the sport because he's earned the right. We' probably never see domination like it again.

Romain Grosjean. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...

This thread doesn't need chevrons, but that Grosjean is taking the biscuit.
As for the race......There wasn't much of one. Too processional. Good drive by Massa.

And Kamui, well done to him.

• #2925
Oh Lewis...
So giving Massa something to worry about but probably renewing him anyway. Better the devil you know.
