langster is more practical all round to be fair
-
• #428
Good idea, and I agree that the Langster would be a better choice, if it fit you well of course, clearance for larger tyres is a bonus.
-
• #429
If you were cycling touring, and potentially coming along some gravelly paths, dirt paths along the way, what tyres size would you want your bike to have? bearing in mind 80% of the time will be on the road
-
• #430
As long it's not super skinny, you'll be fine.
There's no reason why bigger tyres won't roll as well as skinnier tyres, contrary to popular belief, bigger tyres roll better.
I'd says at least a minimum of 28c.

Yup - until any moist or rain sets into the gravel.

• #434

Thank you, it was horrible.

Anyone up for a two week fixed tour from st malo to satander starting mid may? My friend bailed on me, so deciding whether to just go for it on my own.
Ferry there and back works out at about 170 quid. -
• #438
can you give me an exact date? I got quite a bit of stuff happening by then (cytech course and what-not).
P.S. be interesting to see how long it'll last before you punch me in the face.
-
• #439
Plan would be to leave saturday 11th may and come back saturday 25th
I'm sure i wouldn't punch you! as long as you didn't try and give me a bike fit.

• #440
Will double check my calender, could make it, been itching to go fixed touring again.
-
• #441
Hehe watch out he doesn't rope you in to this T-rex thing.

I would've loved to join you, amazing route... I've got Majorca booked though at the same time.
Someone get involved, when I did similar trip last year it was 2 of the best weeks of my life. Just be prepared to suffer a little.
-

Just be prepared to suffer a little.
But you have a very comfortable bike, how did you managed to suffer in the first place?
-
• #445
Unfamiliar saddle, worn out shorts, non carbon seatpost..
the fact that it was a track bike rather than a lazy touring bike maybe?
Don't me remove even more rep from you scobbelz
-
• #446
Heh, surely the bigger tyres helped didn't they?
-
• #447
If anything, 23c were a little too big.
-
• #448
fair enough, must've been way too soft and slow.
-
• #449
Right going to get some fixed touring wheels built. A719 rims, but what hubs? sealed bearings, and preference to fixed/fixed threads in 32h/36h?
Can't afford phil wood prices, around 100-150 quid for the pair -
• #450
Miche?
Formula?
cant afford a new bike and anyone I could borrow one off is coming with me on the tour.
Yeah I'm torn between new fork or swapping components on to the Langster. I'll put some miles in on both bikes and see which one is more comfortable for long distances.
