  • Would not recommended a singlespeed for ascending the mountains, unless you're a masochist.

Would recommended a flip flop hubs where you can have the choice to freewheel on the descent, the only time a freewheel is plausibly acceptable in.

  • Just ordered dolan fxe, now to decide on wheelset and if i want mudguards and 25c or just 28c tyres

  • wide rims! wide rims!

  • very fashionable. are there otp wide rim wheelsets around?

  • Doubtful, Mavic A319 (less than £60 for a pair) laced to Novatec (or similar)?

Or A119 for a touch over £30 for a pair.

  • can i fit 25c on those, internet says recommended is 28c and up

  • I had 25c on it previously.

  • Maxxis ReFuse on A319;

  • Just bit the bullet and ordered a harness and tangle bag from revelate designs. those with my bikepack.eu saddlebag will be more than enough room for touring.

Will follow your suggestion ed and get some A319 rims when i get paid

  • Dammit also riding 25c Maxxis with the A719 rims as well.

Tokyo Fixed is selling Salsa Durango in silver for £5 each, think it's 36h only thought.

  • Verging on a 'cool story' but...

I've has some problems with a 28mm Rubino on a Sputnik touring rim. The tyre bead is narrow so doesn't always shift to the rims hook on inflation. Pumping upto 140 psi (and praying nothing pops) works, but not always first time after a few attempts. Could be a total PITA after a puncture.

It holds tons of air though, so rides really well.

  • Yes - and a good quality one like White Industries.

  • Eh?

  • Eh?

  • looking to do a weeks tour over the summer on my Cinelli Vig.

Reading through this thread I think I'm set on getting a Carradice Saddlebaq.

I just need to work out what I'm going to do for a front brake. I really dont want to drill my forks.

  • I think you'd have trouble fitting those to Cinelli Vigorelli forks.

  • pfft, didn't check

  • Get a different fork, like the Columbus Tusk fork.

yeah thats probably what I'm going to have to do. I'm trying to avoid doing the tour on my beater.

  • How come? (unless it's literally a complete beater).

  • it's pretty shagged, although I suppose I could probably swap all the components from the Vig on to it for the tour.

  • As said on facebook, im +1ing the new fork

  • Personally, go for the bike that you're more comfortable on.

  • Why not borrow or buy a suitable bike for touring on?

    Just a thought.
