yep, meadow bank is wooden. The only one 'near' manchester is kirkby, but I think that is just a disused wasteland now, so probably as you say a rotten lie.

Newcastle-under-Lyme isn't too far away. It was resurfaced a couple of years ago so even if that was it it'll look a bit different now. I've never been there, but one of the northern forum bods put up a couple of photos a while ago.

Can my missus do an induction tomorrow? If so what time do we have to get there?

Inductions are held every Saturday, weather permitting. They are done on a first come, first served basis, so best to get there for no later than 0845 to ensure she gets a place. I think they are limited to 30 riders.

What shoes do people generally wear for track cycling? I've seen some people preferring to use straps ( I think this is what I've seen at ther Olympics etc) and then some seem to use spds ( are these the proper road ones or standard shimano ones?

I'd like to come down and try the induction on one Saturday and I have some shimano spd shoes but would I be better with some stiff ordinary shoes? I'm planning on hiring a bike.

Just bring your own pedals.

BD, The HH loan bikes have straps but you can take them off and pop your own pedals on. If you are riding your own bike change the gear up to around 86 inches and be ready to remove your brakes - supposing that you have them.

It would be good to see you down there. Do the induction and then stay on for the morning session or as much of it as you can face. Bring water bottles - there is a drinking water tap to fill them and a cafe. It gets thirsty.

Cheers clive. I think I'll just use the straps the hire bikes come with. I can't be arsed to faff about with pedals. I'll try to make it down soon, but it might be a few weeks before I'm free of a Saturday :-S

Hi Buddha, I've been planning to do an induction at HH for a while now.
Not sure if i can make this coming Sat but will keep you posted....
It would be good to share the new experience with another newbie!
