What time are beginners setting off at now?
I'm thinking lie-in + relaxed pace = winner -

Have some issues to sort out in the early morning at the bank, but will try to attend the inters session if things are done swiftly.

Coachhouse, I just went through the induction today at 13.00.
Do the new rules in April mean I will have to though 3/4 skill sessions and training accreditation sessions before April?? ThanksAlso, thanks for the help gaz1979.

You should come along to at least three 'Track Skills' sessions before considering moving up to Inters. You can always have a chat with one of the coaches when you feel that you're ready and all will be happy to give you advice. When you are ready/want to move up, you'll have to undertake an accreditation. No-one will be able to take part in an Inters session from 1st April if they haven't passed the accreditation.
Hope that's all clear.

It was clear from what was being said about the accreditation yesterday that it definitely won't just be a box-ticking exercise, which is a good thing.
I'll tell myself I'm re-taking my driving test. Mirror - signal - manoeuvre. :)

True say PhilPub, I was there yesterday and they seem much more strict this year. Too many crashes and danger last year on the track I hear...

Yeah I was at the induction as well. I don't have much knowledge of what it was like before the accreditation process but after seeing how close we should really be drafting, the types of moves we'll be doing and the speed I'm all up for everyone on the track being asked to have passed a good skills test.

By the way I'm fucking stoked to start the track season.

Hi everyone. First post, long time reader. Just some feedback from the training accreditation session I did yesterday (Sunday 2 March) at HH. First of all, this is not an induction session - it's pretty serious. Not a lot of smiling and people were nervous, even people who had been racing for ages. You pin a number on your back but you'll have failed by then if you were late. I'd been doing Monday race training on the old stamps system, but hadn't completed my 3 racing stamps (not that that mattered, everyone is having to redo this new system). There were four exercises, two coaches, with a short water break between each - not really necessary as I didn't find the pace/intensity a problem. First is through and off, then rotating pairs off the blue line, some half lap changes, and groups of four coming off the front on a whistle. Everyone in my group (12 of us) was comfortable with the drills and felt safe. However, if anyone failed it will have been on looking behind at all times before moving - treat this like a driving test and do loads of obvious looking around before moving off a line, or back into the line and you will be OK. Remember they start marking you even when you cross the track with your bike. I passed - but it was nerve wracking - they take individual riders to one side and talk quietly to them. Don't know whether everyone passed. So turn up on time, do lots of looking, and make sure you don't leave gaps in the paceline and you will do OK. It did make me realise that I am not likely to be able to pass the race accreditation without doing much more training. Hope to see a few of you there (and at LVV) in the future, and thanks for all the good advice I've already had on here.

Question for the coaches. I am on the waitlist for Friday night accreditation, and live in the area. Is it worth my rocking up anyway on the off chance you get a couple of no shows? Rider HQ says I´m second in line.
-
• #3367
Not really an easy one for the coaches to answer. If there are a few 'no shows' then it would be a good decision, but if everyone who has booked turns up, it will be a waste of your time. I guess if you live close by and you won't be too upset if you don't get on, then it may be worth a trip.

Hi Coaches.
It's been a while since I've been down to the track so I'm sorry for any significant misunderstandings with the progression process.
The new session pathway states that the Saturday induction session can be done with absolute beginners (no induction card or track experience). Is this induction session the 'Beginner's Track' at 13:00 - 14:00 on the calendar? -
• #3369
Yes, 'Beginners Track Induction' is from 13:00 - 14:00 every Saturday.
-
• #3370
So technically speaking I can currently come on Saturday to the Inters and then do the track skills?
I've found my old Rider Progress Card with my stamps but we need to go again -
• #3371
There's a progression pathway from 'Track Skills' to 'Inters', so we really don't want riders doing Inters and also 'Track Skills'.
-
• #3372
Thanks for the confirmation coachhouse.

Hi again coaches. How busy are sessions atm?
If I were to bring a few friends for 11:45 would we be likely to get a spot for Beginners Induction at 13:00? -
• #3374
Sessions are busy, but 11:45 will be plenty early enough to get a place on the 13:00 induction.

Great. Thanks
Yes there will be several more throughout march and April. The website will be updated tomorrow with a load more dates.
REMEMBER: you can still come to sessions as usual without accreditation until 1st April so don't miss out because you think you aren't allowed to ride
I'll reply to your email in the morning too.
