I would restate that mido is fucking horrible.
The iwc is much much nicer, but I'm not a fan due to ridiculous size.

Nice price for a WW2 Record, fitted with an MOD/NATO dial:

Watches are made to accommodate all tastes.
But fuck the idea I'm just going to buy a watch cause you think its cool
Fifteen/twenty years ago you wouldn't have bought a watch with a case the size of a dinner plate because they weren't widely available. They therefore weren't popular in the eyes of the purchasing public. IIRC Breitling had always produced their Navitimer, but non-fans of them had little else to choose from. IWC were the first to widely market one with the first incarnation of their "Big Pilot's Watch" and Panerai then reappeared with their diving watches. As time has moved on, every Tom, Dick and Harry has jumped on the bandwagon and timepieces have got bigger and in my opinion, considerably uglier. Apparently, this is "what the market is demanding.."
The watches I own are all relatively simple and comparitively small as a result of my rather delicate non Rock/Stallone wrists and aren't going to make me look like I've signed for a Premiership football club.
If I were starting out on my horological journey (as you are), I would take note of the watches which people "on here" recommend. There are reasons why a watch is a classic watch - if they're still selling (and therefore remaining popular) then why amend a design if it isn't broken?'
You're a relatively sensible chap (apart from the obsession with vests and the undying urge to hug other grown men), so paying heed to the advice here could pay dividends in the future - certain watches are like currency and will rarely lose their value in the long term, whereas others really are just shite.

^ Generally agree with you b&d except that the most important reason has to be that the watch excites and interests you. After all, hopefully you are going to wear it.
I know what I like and what I don't. I also don't care what others think of my watch, I get a little rise everytime I check the time.
Buying for investment is either a bonus or just boring... So CB is right (!).

What do people here think of MeisterSinger watches?
Nice single hand watches. Interesting theory. Friend of mine at work wore a No 01 the other day. I quite like the balanced look of the face, all hour numbers have two digits.
I like the fact their logo is the musical symbol for a pause.

I'm new to this forum, but imagine my surprise when I saw a thread relating to another passion of mine on here (this one)
I've owned and restored various Omega Seamaster quartz and manual watches in the past. I've had to shrink my collection though and now wear a battered G Shock to work every day and an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra for non-work time telling. I've also got a square cased Raymond Weil watch for more formal occasions. Only got the one 60s quartz Seamaster currently needing some TLC.

Personally I don't buy this idea that "big wrists" need big watches. It strikes me as a sort of wrist/watch dismorphia. People get used to bigger watches and then have to go bigger to get the "big" look. Sure make divers and Breitlings +40mm but for a regular everyday looks I think it's a bit unnecessary.

The SNE039P1 is nice and has standard lugs.... looks good w/ leather too:
Where's this picture from?
I can only find it with the metal strap. Watch looks interesting. -

Found it on google image search...
You can only buy it on a metal bracelet but it's super easy to change to leather.

I inherited this watch 18 years ago and only now feel responsible enough to wear it.
I didnt know anything about it so I took it down to Grays antique market for them to appraise it.
Turns out its a 1940's Cortebert with 18ct case. They took it apart and its all running extremely well, very clean inside and over the past week it has kept its time impeccably.
Very happy with it as its exactly what I was after. Simple and understated.
