Ive got a couple of watches with a diameter less than 39mm and they both look fine on my 8" wrist. Im not sure whag the size thing is about either. I do like some big watches though.

Turns out its a 1940's Cortebert with 18ct case. They took it apart and its all running extremely well, very clean inside and over the past week it has kept its time impeccably.
Very happy with it as its exactly what I was after. Simple and understated.
The face is the only thing that is a bit grubby. not sure what to do about it
The dial on the 1920's Cortebert I'm wearing today is also a bit grubby but I will be leaving it well along.

This Junghans has got me in a palava.
Its a solar quartz thing but I really like its styling. If it was an auto I'd be scrabbling for my credit card right now.

My Grand Seiko has arrived from Saitama. It's even sharper in the flesh than in the pics. I get the impression that for a 44 year old watch it's spent a lot of its life in a drawer. Considering how clean and scuff free it is.
It's running for over 40 hours on a full wind (mechanical not auto) as a 4520-7000 or one of the VFA models that totally pissed the Swiss off, due to being too accurate at the Observatory Chronometer tests in the late 60s:

However, it must now go to Denmark to a very knowledgeable chap to be cleaned, regulated, and pampered.
Pics will follow.

Robert Reeves. Google him, not cheap but amazing work. Got my 1969 Omega Geneve restored by him - brilliant job; and I'm a horribly fussy cnut.
