Gah...the Rolex I posted above is the actual watch that I'm viewing. I just googled the serial number and can see that it was recently bought at a specialist watch auction for £720 in fairly poor condition i.e there was damage to the glass, the crown was missing and the face appears to have been replaced.
Here is what it looked like before it was refurbed. (attached)
The seller seems legit and trades in a lot of Rolex watches. The only work that he has mentioned is a recent polish.
Should I steer clear?

Asking price was £1500 but the seller has indicated that he would accept £1250.

And I'm viewing one of these on Thursday for when I'm jerking off.
LOL.
Very nice too.

Bought one of these recently, am very pleased with it, the quality of finish is superlative - think sort of 'baby Grand Seiko'.

Should I steer clear?
Probably. I'd ask if the dial is an original, painted by Rolex, and from what year.
If its a re-dial then run.
-
• #6560
Then I guess the question is, is this...
...the same dial as this

Because according to serial numbers and auction records, those watches share the same case.

Does the date window magnifier on the new crystal hide the luminous 3 O'Clock marker which c an be seen on the older photo?

crown is not original either.
I think you should avoid. much better deals out there I'm sure.
I prefer the look of the unrestored watch too. -
• #6563
maybe the current seller didn't do the recondition, but the owner before them. try to ask where they got it. tell you think it's not all original.

avoid.

• #6565
Thank you all. I will avoid.
Will put money aside and keep my eyes peeled for similar. ^That Seiko is lovely btw.

I like Glashütte watches.

Seiko is amazing, but it'll always be an emulation of the Rolex. I'm sure it's as good (or better?) as the Rolex mechanically though.

Fair point, but it's not a Rolex.

It looks like one though, yeah?

The Air King Date has really grown on me in the last 24 hours!
Yum.

• #6571
I bought one of those from my missus' year of birth for her 30th last year.
It wasn't too difficult to track the serial numbers down and the watch itself wasn't so toppy either.
She was made up.

The Air King or the Seiko?

throws up

I've found another Air King Date to look at later in the week. This one is less moody.
Has my agent in the middle east spotted anything of interest?

That other bloke here wasn't really interested in playing ball.
Might be a good idea to wait until it gets seriously hot out here and he's not had a sale in a week before I administer the thumbscrews.
Cool! Exciting.
