  • Work on the nadgers first please mate, less likely to want to get them out to show the po po.

In all seriousness I appreciate you keeping your eyes open for me but really don't worry about it. There seems to be barely any price difference wherever you buy a 2nd hand Rolex and theres plenty of choice over here...

  • The Air King Date has really grown on me in the last 24 hours!

    Yum.

Do you work in the city? :oP

  • Yes, I work as a hedge fund manager at a corporate bank.

No, I just like the look of the watch.

  • you and b&d...

  • I'm joking. Much nicer than SEIko.

  • Just dropped off 2 watches at Alsal on the Strand. Never been there before but really nice people and loads of decent watches all around. After talking to the guy there I have full confidence I'll get good service. Great to find good stores around!

Tried on a Citizen Titanium thing there, rated at 300m and some Marine commando reference, looks like a great go anywhere/do anything watch. I'm sure I've seen it on this thread before:

  • Nope...latest Air King Date I have seen is slightly moody too. After-market crystal.

These watch people look at you as if you've just smurfed their daughter when you object to the fact that the watch they are trying to sell to you for ££££ is not 100% genuine.

  • After-market crystals (or any after-market work) are fine as long as they've been installed correctly by an approved dealer or watchmaker.

And not by a bloke with a hammer...

  • you and b&d...

I do work in a city.

    Just not yours.

  • ^^ this. Nothing wrong with an aftermarket crystal as long as they're the same quality.

  • that watch is loveyl lowpug

    Cheers lady-chaps.

The after market crystals that I have seen seem to be a bit wider than the originals. They magnify well but cover a bit more of the face towards the 3 position. Am I being overly anal?

So many watches with no paperwork at all too. I have no doubts that most of the ones that I have seen are real (or mostly real) but even so...

  • Actually I may be talking bollocks. The latest watch I have looked at looked similar in terms of crystal to post #6576

  • And not by a bloke with a hammer...

I'll have you know that the Rollox and the Folex that Murts sold me have been fine TYVM.

  • I just had a cracking conversation with an eBay seller. Fibbing through her teeth to me and whilst asking her specific questions I emailled her the photo and lot details from the auction she bought it from less than two weeks ago.

According to her "has only needed a clean and polish" since she bought it. In reality, it has had new glass and crystal, new crown, either a new face and hands or a thorough clean of the face and hands and in addition to that she posted photos of an entirely different watch at the start of the auction.

She then started asking that I leave her positive feedback because she depends on it to make a living to which I pointed out that she asked me to pay her by bank transfer and outside of the eBay auction which would mean that it would be impossible for me to leave feedback anyway.

    Wow. Some people.

  • Does "Escrow" still exist with eBay?

  • I still can't find my O&W Flieger... I may have lost it... :'(

  • Does "Escrow" still exist with eBay?

I don't think so but I did see mention of it on an out of date site recently. There are other escrow services I suppose.

  • Does "Escrow" still exist with eBay?

It does exist but only in the US of A

  • Ah. Where is this bint?

    Go and try it.

  • London but its not worth it.

I asked if there was any paperwork for the refurb work. She said there was no refurb work. I asked again, pointing out that it wasn't a complete watch less than two weeks ago when she bought it at auction and that I would at least need to know which jeweller did the work. She still insisted that it just had a clean and polish. I then noticed that she had sent me photos of a different watch than the one she listed initially.

Combine that with her insistence that we close the ebay auction and deal only in cash I think I shall be bidding this bint good day.

"Just send me the money by bank transfer and I'll post you the watch next day"

    Ok love.

  • Fuck that.

  • ^Haha, its quite comical peoples blazé attitudes with serious cash!

  • The auction is now listed at £1750. It was £1500 before. I put in a conditional offer of £1250 which was declined on eBay and then she accepted via email outside of eBay. Needless to say, she did not meet my conditions.

  • Say to her "You have to give a little to get a little".
