  • Protection is everything! >>>>>>>>

    Helmet thread>>>>>>>>>>

    Blah blah>>>>>>>

  • Tyre kicker is Time waster... Someone who kicks car tyres while buying secondhand cars without actually buying. Always has issues with the sale. Ums and ahs.

Good one to both of you!

Yes the watch geek who comes into showroom not to purchase but to talk crap and tell you what they have at home . Generally wearing an Oris whilst their fictional Breitling / IWC / Daytona is away being " serviced " .

  • So what's a window licker?

I always thought it came from the french expression 'lécher les vitrines' which is used to mean window shopping, but translates literally as licking windows. Never encountered the Urban Dictionary meanings.

  • I'd far rather have an Oris than people constantly asking if the Rolex I'm wearing is real!

    So we have met?

And it's not an Oris, I couldn't stretch to that so picked up a very tidy Timex :)

If they know you, then they'll know. If they don't then what do you care?

  • ^This.

  • I'll enjoy wearing it, enjoy the fact that a lot of people won't know who Oris are and apparently it'll be perfect for wearing whilst kicking tyres...

So I guess, unlike these clowns you refer to, you really have a Breitling / IWC / Daytona?

How is being that awesome going for you? Pretty well I expect.

  • Pics or it didnt happen!

  • Boom! My 40 year old mechanical Swiss Ebay long shot has lost just 1 minute over the last week of daily wear. It's light and comfy, though my mate said it was a bit too 'goldy' pah, what would he know? He's only Swiss but I don't think watch knowledge is genetic. And his Swiss rolls are laughable.

It's a cross I have to bear . And currently I don't own Breitling , had a chronomat and sold . Iwc was totalled in my huge cycling shunt in April ( search the " oh shit " thread on here ) . And I have never owned a Daytona . however I do have currently A Speedmaster professional , a 1970's speerdmaster prof mark 2 being restored , a certina , a Longines master collection , and yes there are pics on here .
I know I am very lucky , but I do work in the trade ...

  • Oh and my wife has a Cartier Santos automatic , and my daughter had a classic must de cartier for her 13th birthday . And victorinox gave me a divemaster as a gift for being a nice chap .
VanUden has my business card ( or will have when his package arrives ) if you need any advice !

  • I've had my Vintage Aquatimer now for about a month. So thought I'd do a bit of a review just in case anyone is interested.

I love the feel of this watch. The size, the weight, the looks are all exactly what I wanted. This watch certainly looks and feels like a quality piece of engineering. The machining and finish of the case is incredible, with very pleasing contrast between the high polish of the back, lug tops and crowns with the brushed case and lug sides and the machined bezel. The large gently domed crystal is really something to behold! The feel of both crowns when using them is both solid and satisfying. The internal unidirectional bezel is fantastic. The face is beautiful. I really like the fact is has no Roman or Arabic numerals to mark the hours (who needs them?) The matte black face contrasting with the high polish hands and bevelled baton edges really catch the light to give it some bling. The lume with comfortably last all night.

In one calendar month it has gained 23 seconds. Less than one per day. Pretty good.
The original plasitcky rubber strap, although quality, wasn't particularly comfortable and so needed to be changed and although I initially I didn't like the Hirsch Aero strap I put on it, I have fiddled with the inserts and now it fits much better and I'm now really enjoying it. I now like the way it fits and it's stiffness where it joins the case and how it tapers off toward the buckle to be very supple. It seems to be very hardwearing and resistant to scuffs too. Very well made and comfortable indeed!

I really should thank VanUden again for brining both the watch and the strap to my attention. I had been looking for my perfect watch for a while. This is pretty much it.

And I really don't care what anyone's opinion on IWCs is, good or bad, to me IWC make absolutely superb watches and this one is awesome!

    Some more photos:

    Cheers.

  • Well, that very watch is on ebay

Lovely watch. I definitely one I will one day own.

  • Really, really sexy.

  • And here is a true classic iwc AquaTimer

    Nice review. Nicer watch.

  • That is a beautiful watch.

  • Happy to have helped gridds and lovely review. Sharkskin was the only way forward. I'm sure B&D's sartorial emporium will back me up on this.

And ejay interesting to hear what you now have - noted as an Omega man with a penchant for other Swiss 'lesser fawned over' brands ;)

I bought my step-father a Certina Blue Ribbon from the mid 60s a couple of years ago and have always had a soft spot for the Longines Conquest Heritage.

    Approved.

  • Grand Seiko is just back from the Danish fixer-mender OMG. It's breathtaking from both a horological and historical perspective - it also looks well lush.

  • It's just a shame it's not from Switzerland.

Apparently that's where all the watches in the world come from or something. I bet it doesn't even tell the time.

  • VU, This thread is useless without pitchers.
