Happy to have helped gridds and lovely review. Sharkskin was the only way forward. I'm sure B&D's sartorial emporium will back me up on this.
And ejay interesting to hear what you now have - noted as an Omega man with a penchant for other Swiss 'lesser fawned over' brands ;)
I bought my step-father a Certina Blue Ribbon from the mid 60s a couple of years ago and have always had a soft spot for the Longines Conquest Heritage.
My certina is a genuine new old stock slim automatic from the 1990s I believe , I have never worn it myself , it just sits in my watch box . May even sell it , to pay for restoration of the speedmaster . And yes VanUden Longines are the mutts , and represent really good value for money against some " trendier " Swiss brands . Their column wheel chronograph is lovely as is all the master collection .

VU, This thread is useless without pitchers.
Am waiting for brown crocodile strap and original buckle to turn up then will take some along with the genuine 1960s NOS Grand Seiko wooden box I have (oh yes). And the baby blue silk handkerchief that the GS came wrapped in from Saitama.

Been time testing it for 12 hours now it's back. Honestly can't see even 1 second as a discrepancy back or forward.
The 'linen' type finish face changes in different lights. Sometimes it's a flat industrial silver, sometimes it's a warm gold or champagne, and sometimes it's actually a sort of pinkish peach blossom colour.
I doubt I could capture any of this with photography but will do my best once the strap and GS buckle arrive.

So following this thread for a while I now know I want another decent everyday watch, ideally something with a bit of weight that can look slightly dressy if it needs to,
What are the opinions on the Seiko SKA371BFK?
It looks like a decent dive watch and I've never heard of a bad movement or Lume coming from seiko's.
It's also a kinetic, (hybrid quartz) which pleases a geek like me! -

^ The hour hand does look somewhat like a condom, no?
-
• #10062
^ both hands look pretty phallic tbh.

^ sorry to have ruined it...

Agreed the hour hand does look slightly penisy, but I think it adds to the charm!

VU, that hi-beat is beautiful. Properly envious.

Well I've bought the penis watch and I impulse bought an Orient Mako XL in the blue bezel and face, should have both by Wednesday, photos when they arrive!

Thanks chaps! I am rather chuffed - not unlike a persistent boar that's just found a particularly fragrant truffle.

Is £240 too much to pay for a buckle? I mean it's just a fucking buckle. But it's an original GS buckle from the 1960s and as rare as rocking-horse doo-doo.
However, it is still just a buckle. Shoot, don't shoot?

Will you be selling this watch next week / year or is it a keeper?
If it's a keeper then £240 isn't very much for something you plan on having for life...
-
• #10073
^ It's a keeper, good point.
-
• #10074
Pull the trigger. It sounds like it'll add to your appreciation of the watch.

That's what I assumed.... do it.
The last thing you want with something you love as much as you should love this watch is having a tiny part of it not be perfect.
