  • Nice, got the same on my new bike, unfortunately not compact....hence

  • ^ nice. 10 speed - I can't stretch to that.

Do you think I need a new front mech for a compact? Who's best to get it all fitted? I can't see harry halls being too happy if I take my own chainset in for them to fit. I don't think I have the tools or proper know-how to change shimano BBs and he like.

bike boutique would fit for you and i've never had any probs with stuff they've done. I think you do need a new mech yes...on my way to edale to cry up winnats whilst seth goes up and down about 50 times grinning! x

As Nes says, BB would do it, and not many bike shops can complain if you turn up with your own bits. Certainly Withington Cycles never do.

Shimano only have double and triple front mechs in their range, nothing compact specific, so current front mech should work fine. In theory you should get a new chain and cassette, but depending on wear levels of current setup you could be OK.

No idea about Bottom Brackets, that's deffo a mechanic's job.

I got a new BB plus the shimano tool and did it myself really easily after rusty poo was oozing out of my Bottom(bracket) on the rainy Cat and fiddle ride.

I think the FSA's use the same hollowtech2 technology, so I've got all the tools and one successful isntallation under my belt, if you haven't got it done already.

  • beautiful...

me too atch if you need a hand i'm back from the peaks now so let me know x

  • Any ride planned this Sat??

    Cheers

  • Not for me as Chorlton Beer Festival on friday night will render Saturday out of the question. Will possibly do a long ride around Cheshire on Sunday (fixed) if you fancy it ?

  • I'll be watching the tour on Sunday. It's Col d'Aspin and Tourmalet!! It'll be nice to see the climb I did on TV. On the day it was so cloudy that you couldn't see the mountain whilst climbing it, or anything below.

  • Oh aye, I'll probably get out in the morning then, and watch it myself later on.

  • I'm doing the women's wheelers ride on sunday so prolly not this week...week after I can only do sunday cos of party in the park on the saturday..can anyone else?

  • some photos from this weekend

me + seth rode up winnats pass..i had to stop half way up to try not to die but seth hammered it all the way up but looked pretty fucked at the top, it was about 34 degrees that day though...i think riding down the other side was almost worse than riding up though...

we should all go there soon and i can cry all over again...

then we went out in the dales on some crazy road ride from hill (gettit?..hahaahaha..sorry.)

we all made it up the cow and calf though...hooray!

think seth is busy planning another route for us all for when we next take a trip to the white rose county..when are people free?

  • p.s. my new 39/27 didn't feel that much different to the previous gearing...still had legs that felt they were going to drop off and wanted to tie a rope round seth.

  • i have bikehiked the 60 mile tour of the peaks route to see elevation etc...was thinking of riding it weekend after next (sunday 19th) if anyone's up for it

    www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=11556

might be good for the people doing the 100 to give it a go too?

it's not that dissimilar to seth's route last weekend..similar ascent, the gradients much bigger on the peaks one but more erratic on seth's!! (you can compare by looking at this http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=10549 as well as the other)...with that in mind I'm glad i'm not doing the 100 no way could i have then ridden to do holme moss at the end of last weeks ride..

  • Yep. I'm up for that 60 miler round the peaks on the 19th.

  • do we ride slowly out there then...or get the train?

it makes it 110 miles in total if we ride out and back...

  • by the way adam is gonna design us an i bike mcr jersey..not only a work of beauty I'm sure but also will make us go a million times faster due to feeling so terribly suave...also we will look well ace all matching in the tour of the peaks and up ventoux.. please let me know if you want one so i can get an idea of numbers. i only just asked adam about designing it so not got design yet but as he is a design genius i'm sure it will be amazing.

  • Hmmm, wait for the weather forecast nearer the date. We should do the 60 miles no matter what the weather as it's decent training for the Tour of the Peaks and the weather in late October will likely be shite.

So ride out and maybe a train home depending on how we feel at the finish ?

  • Yep, I'm up for a shirt.

  • or train out and ride back if not knackered??

  • Trust me, we will be knackered !

  • exactly that's why we should start fresh so when we get to winnats you can fairly judge how much you'd love to then ride to holme moss and back!! hahahaahahahahahaa....poor poor you....the ride back downhill will be a joy in comparison to what you'll actually have to do on the day x

  • Hmm good point. Ok, train out as returns are pretty much the same price as singles. I ain't definitely doing the 96 yet......

  • i suddenly feel a bit cheerier.. this i why...
