I've just registered for the 96 mile tour of the peak. I am very scared. Still, after Ventoux, everything else'll be a breeze, right? Anyway, cheers for the other day, like Ronnie said, i loved it in the worst way. Is anyone up for the (drunkenly discussed) Yorkshire run on the 4th August? I'll get planning a route if so. Can't wait for Holme Moss on Saturday... x s

Alright mate, yep Holme Moss Saturday. Do you mean 4th July for Yorkshire, 'cos I'm up for that. Ended up a bit pissed on Saturday and some bloke accused me of trying to nick my own bike as I struggled with the combination lock. He later described me as trampy looking apparently.
-
• #229
hahahahahhahahhahaha that's hilarious...you were pretty wasted though..
yeah seth, is that July you mean?
post the proposed route so i can get all squeamish and scared of the crazy hills i know you'll have in store for us.
I can't wait to be on the tour of the peaks and say "well, when i did the ventoux...."
-
• #230
er yeah i meant july. hmm. I'll post a route soon.

Here, have a look at this for a route for the 4th. It's 60 miles, but it's pretty killer - has the Oxenhope climb over to Hebden, the climb out to Heptonstall, the Cow and Calf, and the Chevin. Start and finish at Shipley Station, which is very near the Best Pub In West Yorkshire, Fanny's Ale House. It also has over 1900m of ascent, which is pretty much what we'll be doing on the Ventoux. The Chevin at the end would be optional - if you'd had enough climbing you could leave it out. It is a complete arsehole of a hill.

Nes, yes that's pretty much the route, except we're doing it t'other way round, so out via loop line to Ashton Old Rd, and back via Glossop and Mossley.
Seth, that Yorkshire ride looks erm interesting.

or we could do this one - still as much climbing but no monster hills save the cow and calf and the chevin. It's prettier, and there's a vegan restaurant in Grassington - http://www.theretreatcafe.co.uk/index.html
www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=10549,
OR we could set off from Skipton, and do Fleet Moss from Hawes. I am properly scared of that hill - it goes higher than holme moss (588m), and it's just straight, you can see every inch of what you have to get up - here! www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=10551 -

FFS ! Those Yorkshire rides look dreadfully hard. I reckon we should start from Leeds/Bradford as Skipton is 2 trains from Manc.

Alas not me this week, hope you have a good ride. Knees are fine and sorted but completely over-use-fucked my achilles tendon on Sunday riding to Rivington Pike and back. I'm on ibuprofen, icing 3 times a day and hobbling round. Dun Run is probably out, and the 24Hr TT in 30 days is looking doubful.
Might get the train to CM on Friday with the girl though, so mayb catch you guys there.
Saturday was funny, bought one of those Nutriment drinks in Chorlton, 60g of Carbs of which 60g sugar! Flew along to Warrington taunting the vicious head wind, "is that all you've got!!??" then I just crumbled, couldn't turn the pedals, the last hour was limping hell.
Lol on stealing your own bike Ronnie.

Seth, I registered for the 96 mile Tour of the Peak too. YOu've missed your vocation in life, with a name like that you should be a frame builder.

I would love to but I've already cleared out my holiday funds for the year.
So nes, have you been hammering the hills then lately? I'm well unfit at the mo, you'll probably be dropping me. I don't even feel like I have the right to shave my legs!
-
• #246
You'll be fine Wayne, me and Disrail did Holme Moss the easy way t'other week, and we did the C&F proper last saturday.
HTFU !

• #247
i def shall not be dropping you, been doing hills yes but they have been relentlessly killing me with no let up. real sad you aren't coming...see you sat then?
-
• #248
Alex said it was hard last week - but I guess he wasn't on a road bike as such.
I went to Corsica last week (not on a bike) you should have seen the hills there - my scooter struggled up some - like a cross between Winnat's and Alpe D'Huez. Every now and again you;d see a group of cyclists at the top of a 1.5km high climb in the blistering heat. Respect!
-
• #249
yeah it wasn't so bad as we had a tail wind up the C and F but the rain was torrential! Alex was carrying a bottle of wine and other heavy goodies that I wouldn't want to drag up those hills..as usual it was the wizard i liked least..
