Is my carbon footprint higher if I have a carbon bike?
-
• #303
...because we get there fast than cars AND have teh ability to disobey the rules of the road

No, it's lower. your bike's carbon construction sequestres carbon from the environment and locks it in a form which cannot be easily metabolised.

OT: real research into what motorists think of cyclists.
http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/research/rsrr/theme1/researchreport/Summary here:
http://www.bikehub.co.uk/news/bike-to-work/drivers-dont-think-cyclists-should-be-on-the-road-says-dft-report/Someone may have linked to this elsewhere.
I can't read those quotes from motorists without imagining them tear stained, sipping a strong drink in the rain, sounding regretful but determined like soldiers after an intense firefight.
I have nothing against cyclists whatsoever, everyone has a right to the use of the road, but when you think of the amount of accidents they do cause, there’s no registration, they don’t pay anything at all to use the roads, they’ve not paid to have a cycle lane fitted, all the car drivers pay for that.

I'm probably not the only one to notice this but it does make me chuckle - though he does redeem himself a little with the "everyone has a right to use the road" (just about). -

any one see the top gear were richard hammond stuck up for cyclist? seems that jeremy clarkson hates us, was glad to see hammond sticking up for us

yes we have the right to use the queens highway, motorists are under the illusion that they own the road but are merely permitted use through licensing.

ha you think they have a licence.

Just a thought that occurred to me today- the ASL is widely ignored and pretty much never enforced.
The legislation seems to be a little confused, so the coppers pretend it does not exist.
In order to make use of existing legislation that is widely understood why not just paint the ASL area with the yellow cross hatching of a "do not enter unless you can exit" box?
Those are 3 points and £60 if you are in them, no excuse, done and dusted.
-
• #313
But nobody takes a blind bit of notice of those either.

Amen, this quote from some woman when they closed Robin Hood Gate permantely in Richmond Park made me laugh so hard:

A motorist has as much right to go through the park as pedestrians," said Ms Tracey.**lmao. it's like some of them want all the rights in the park (and roads in general with little responsiblity).

But Richard 'hamster' Hammond is NOT A FUCKING HAMSTER!

I've noticed that motorists observe the yellow cross hatching more than the ASL boxes. Perhaps they understand what the yellow cross hatching means.
Probably because they are marked out in the middle of busy traffic lighted crossroads and there is the fear of being stranded. -
• #317
The yellow hatched areas are understood in terms of contravention- stop in one and you are guilty, simple as that.
Very easy for a camera to dole out loads of fines very quickly, and therefore for people to get the message.
All but the truly stupid motorist tends to stay out of them in my experience

• #318
I'm starting to like this idea :)
-
• #319
I think it would work- loads of motorists have no idea that they are not allowed in "the green bit you wait in"
-
• #320
Cyclists wouldn't be allowed in the new yellow box either.

• #321

'sequestres'?
Spanish rider?

True Andy, however we don't have a number plate for the automated Fine-O-Matic to make use of.

Keep it yellow and change the Highway code.
Green and yellow cross hatching would not work. -

And the reason cyclists are hated is?

Keep it yellow and change the Highway code.
Green and yellow cross hatching would not work.Change it? Most drivers have no idea what it is anyway.
Well he has set the bar pretty high...
